I've heard rumors of an octo-core CPU in the works.

Hmm new quads, how long do you think until those are released. Cause i'm in the market for a new cpu. Wondering if I should wait until those are relased to pick up the quads now at a lower price.

    The Quads are released.
Intel will sit on their current CPU's as long as possible, which is a wise move, less expensive.

The Penryn quads should be available very shortly, probably this month, some have already been reviewed. 8 cores is still a while away. Optomistic estimates have them appearing late this year, but more realistic figures place it in early 09.

I don't think we need 8 cores, just yet.
There aren't enough apps that ultilize 2+ cores now, much less 8.

IMO, about the best thing to do now is let the new quads come out, and try to snag a Q6600 or Q6700 while it's on sale. Hopefully the prices will fall when the new quads hit the market, and let us pick up the older models for cheap!

Not sure how soon it's gonna happen, but we can hope!
