yes. Think of it as a large flash drive.... that you have to install. tbh, when I pulled data off my old HDD, I didn't even put it in the case. I had it sitting on a platform next to the case. Even if it has an OS on it, it won't be used. Also, I beleive my old HDD was in FAT32, and my vista is the one kind (forget the name). It still is not a problem. |

If you plan on not doing a lot of media editing, and just plan on playing games and simple stuff. Then i recommend vista basic. It gives you access to DX 10 but also needs less power because it isn't as beautiful as premium or ultimate |

I would certainly not go basic. The aero on premium and up can be turned off manually.... and I personally just think its pretty . I leave aero on as it really doesn't affect performance to a noticable degree, at least for me. Some people can be picky though, it just depends. Either way, you get more features than just Aero with premium. |

Remember thought that this is a budget computer and with a $500 (euros?) either way...the $30 difference between basic and premium can be the difference between a 9600gt and an 8800gt. And if your making a budget computer you're going to have to make some sacrifices to put the money where it really matters(cpu, gpu, ram, etc.)
About features: thats why i said if you're only doing simple stuff and gaming. Personally i don't make lots of videos etc. and use the many features of windows, i have a mac for productivity things.
