OK, here's the Dilemma.
What should I buy A PS3 to watch Blu-ray movies on this Blu-ray player from Sony. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5984216
Reason I ask is I've been told that while PS3 plays Blu-ray movies - it isn't good for it.
Seems strange to me but for the price and what you get, PS3 is the way to.
Thanks,
Bill

If you're a gamer and are going to fully utilize the PS3, then get it. Otherwise, just get the dedicated Blu-ray player.
I'm waiting for the prices to come down to a more reasonable level before getting a Blu-ray player. Nearly $400 to watch a damn movie is a bit steep in my book.

Deja Vu. I still remember all the BETA tapes I had back in the early 80s when VHs won that media battle. Guess SONY is finally getting even

I guess it depends if you're very particular about the quality of vid/audio
I typically can't tell the difference /shrug
I will say that watching something like Planet Earth in Blu-Ray is a beautiful thing on a PS3
Its full 1080p, its firmware upgradeable and will continue to be updated for the next 9 years
Most players maybe supported for a year or so then they'll want you to upgrade.
It really depends on what your standards are
If you want a full home theater and you can tell the difference in very slight changes and you're willling to pay for slight differences, then go for the dedicated
I will say look for the players that support Profile 2.0, they are net connected and will be easier to update.
Prior versions you'd have to download the update and burn to disc to update the player. |

I myself would probably go with the PS3, why you ask?
1. First off, the obvious gaming capabilities.
2. Music and DVD storage. (can never have enough storage)
3. You can run Folding on it when your not gaming. (Team TIMO needs all the help it can get)
4. You can surf online from your couch.
5. You can do video conferences to other PS3's
6. You can stream music and movies from you PC via winamp remote to the PS3, so you can watch all you movies in HD (if content allows of course)
I'll stop there. They are well worth the price tag IMO. And they are only gonna keep adding more to them with further updates.
Just my two cents. |

The newer PS3's are suppose to come with bigger hard drives, correct? |

Just my two cents. | Yup, I love my PS3! I stream music and HD movies from my PC to my PS3 over a wireless connection! It is great! Plus the games are amazing! |
