| How can I reboot a non-remoteable computer?
Ok, I hope this make sense...
I have a computer that I can only ping. I cannot remote to it using remote software (terminal services, RAdmin, etc) They simply will not work. The CPU is apparently bogged down with a buggy application.
I have already tried using pskill, psshutdown, etc with no luck.
Is there a way I can reboot this PC remotely considering I can only ping it?

Firewall is probably on and blocking remote traffic. Your going to have to get infront of it to figure out what is blocking you and then you should be able to remote in. |

If the pc is in the same workgroup/building that you're in, the following should help:
Creating a Shutdown/Reboot Icon
WindowsXP has a program called SHUTDOWN.EXE which allows you to easily create icons to shutdown or restart your computer.
To create a shutdown shortcut on the desktop:
Right click on an open area of the desktop
Select New / Shortcut
Enter in "shutdown -s -t 00" - no quotes
Press the Next button
For the name, enter in anything you like. I just use shutdown. Click on the Finish button.
For a reboot, enter "shutdown -r -t 00"
Shutdown [{-l|-s|-r|-a}] [-f] [-m [\\ComputerName]] [-t xx] [-c "message"] [-d[u][p]:xx:yy]
Parameters
-l - Logs off the current user, this is also the defualt. -m ComputerName takes precedence.
-s - Shuts down the local computer. -r - Reboots after shutdown. -a - Aborts shutdown. Ignores other parameters, except -l and ComputerName. You can only use -a during the time-out period.
-f - Forces running applications to close. -m [\\ComputerName] - Specifies the computer that you want to shut down.
-t xx - Sets the timer for system shutdown in xx seconds. The default is 20 seconds.
-c "message" - Specifies a message to be displayed in the Message area of the System Shutdown window. You can use a maximum of 127 characters. You must enclose the message in quotation marks. |

Thanks for the replies
@nemowolf - Unfortunately this problem is PC based. There is a program that is tacking the CPU at 100% and I cannot connect to it. Other computers on the network that don't have this program, I can get to.
@Steve R Jones - I have also tried to use shutdown.exe. These are Win2k PCs, but I downloaded the 2000 resource pack on a computer on the network and used it on that computer remotely for the problem PC with no success - I also tried some of the PSTools.
@Keymaker - I cannot get to the computer to install Ultra VNC, since the PC is tacked at 100%. I do have Remote Admin installed on it, though - and that proves useless :-(
So, unfortunately, I am still stuck in this situation. It's funny that I can ping the PC, but I cannot do anything else. |

I hate the state what may be the obvious, but can't you call whomever at wherever and have them reboot the offending PC? |

@Newd - Sorry, LogMeIn is not installed and I can't connect to install it.
@Roots - This is the secondary solution, but it takes so long to get someone on site, that I have been trying to do this remotely in the mean time. That is the best way, but not always possible. |
