| Computer Keep Shutting Down Hello, I have a computer which keeps on shutting down. I do not believe it is shutting down of heat because It will happen when I first turn it on. I will have to reboot 5 to 6 times. I ran all shorts of spyware, anti virus programs, regcure programs. My temperture reads 32 35 32 when it is running. This happens at all times of the day or night. Sometimes it won' happen at all.
It happens when I am not using the computer and then it happens when I am. It is not a power surge problem because I have another computer hooked up to the same outlets and that one stays on. It started months ago and is getting worse. My fans are running and when the computer shuts down I is cool to the touch. I can see inside my computer and it is clean and dust free. I alway keep the fan screens clear. Someone said it may be a devise driver problem. I have read some threads from years ago on this site but no solution. Does anyone have any Idea ??? Sure could use some insight to this problem. |

It sounds like the Power Supply, or the CPU cooler. Did you touch the CPU cooler? |

I just replied to your post. I also attached a photo of the inside of the cpu. Like I said I believe you are correct since I have opened the cpu door the computer has not shut down. There are 6 fans running plus the side opened and no shut down. I do not know where the power supply is or the cpu cooler that is why I send the photo. thanks for your help. Let me know if you received the photo. Lynn |

Hello, I put on my computer and after about 15 minutes it shut off. So I opened
the cpu cover and I am using my computer and playing a game no shut down. I
do not know exactly where the power supply is located. Maybe you can explain
and I have four fans running so which is the cpu cooler.
There are 6 fans running. I am attaching a picture of the inside.I have a photo of the inside of my computer but I do not know how to down load it to you on this forum. I had this computer built for gaming. I have had this computer for 2 years in December 08. I do not do heavy gaming. It will shut down anytime. Also when it is booting up it will shut down. It could be a power supply problem. |

I guess I will replace the power supply first and see what happens.
I am not too computer savvy when it comes to the innerds of the computer. I just could not see how it would be getting hot with all the fans. But I have not had a problem since I opened the side door to this big cpu.
Thanks for your help. |

The CPU is the processor. Let's call the box that it goes in the "case".
If removing the case cover improves things, then the fans may be pointing the wrong way. If they all blow inward, the case will build pressure. If they all blow outward, you will get a vacuum. Neither is good for cooling.
The fans that are lowest should blow inward. The highest fans should blow outward. Picture a stream of air going in the front down low and out the back up high near the power supply (if it is mounted high). The hard drive should be near an inward flow for cooling them. |

My fans are situated correctly. The psu is up in the corner. It is an aspire Clear Top 500 watt ATX Power Supply Two fans plus a built in fan controller and over voltage and heating protection. My intel Pentium 4 930 3.0 ghz 800mhg and a cpu heatsink fan. I have a fan the is directly on top of my cpu that takes in air which is directly going to the psu's fan. I have a two fans that is pulling air in on the bottom and another fan blowing out in the back. there is also a large fan that is blowing to the mother board I guess just below the power supply box which reads CPU Cooler. I have closed the case and am going to see what happen for the rest of the evening. thanks I will Keep you informed. |

Just to let you know that your suggestions was on the money. It was hot. I opened the door to the cpu, I did a dusting and cleaning and saw the dust come out. My computer has not shut down for the entire week. The cpu fan was the dirtiest. I have a clear see through door and did not see the dust until I used the air cleaner. Thank you all for the help.
