explorer quickly shuts down

My son just recently downloaded a patch for Wavepad, and now my windows explorer (not IE) keeps closing after accessing any of my 5 different drives on my computer.

He told me after he downloaded the patch that he clicked on the icon, the machine bluescreened . I tried doing a restore but it will only let me restore to a time after he installed the program. I mean I can open any drive see the files and folders, but very shortly after explorer shuts down.

You can access many of the files either through Windows media player, MS word or other programs you would generally use to access them, but you don't have time to view anything if you open it in explorer because explorer shuts down right away.

Needless to say I haven't given my son back to God yet, but it could happen. So does anyone have any ideas??

try running msconfig and disable any non-critical processes or anything you don't need.

Other than that, reinstall always works
