sata question

I took a 6 week coarse a few years ago and learned to build me a computer. Now I am building a new one with sata components, mobo and hard drive.
My question is: my old power supply does not have sata connectors. Do I need a power supply w/sata connectors or is the hard drive powered through the sata cable?

You need either a PSU with the proper connectors or simple SATA power adapters. You can find them pretty much anywhere.

Using an older power supply for new components is probably a mistake. The course you took should have emphasized the importance of a stout power supply. It's critical.
