Random Game lag?

First of I'm using a XFX GeForce 8600gt 256mb DDR3 graphics card and when I'm playing bioshock its temperature is 70-75 degrees(Celsius) and I get random lag sometimes even though fraps says my famerate is 44-89?Whats causing this? Also its not big lag its just like it goes a little slower for a second or less(sometimes not even in graphically intensive places)
Thanks
Endrien
Edit:Canyourunit.com puts my pc at almost the fastest on their bar for bioshock
Pc specs:
Windows vista(32-bit)
2.2ghz dual core processor
360gig hard drive
3gigs of ram
XFX Geforce 8600gt video card
400w PSU

computers hiccup every once in a while, especially with games. General housekeeping to keep these glitches from occuring include:
defrag hard disc
kill unneeded background apps that consume RAM
keep video drivers current.

Fraps also doesn't work right with some games AND can even be the source of the lag issues.

Crysis is a perfect example, but BioShock should be ok, but you might want to disable it & see if it changes anything.

yep, has something to do with DirectX, as FRAPS utilizes the DirectX Overlay feature for showing FPS etc... I found this out when using TeamSpeak & the TeamSpeak Overlay app, and FRAPS all at once.

when used with the TSO app, FRAPS won't show FPS or anything on screen, but will record video/screens, just no overlay.

when used with out TSO, it displays normally.

so there's a conflict between the Overlays, since TSO I know uses DirectX's Overlay feature/s...

I know FRAPS does too.

also, since you can set FRAPS to only show a max frame rate, there might be more to it than that. the game will continue to run at whatever frame rate its running at, but fraps will only show up to the max rate set...

FRAPS is a nice program, but has some annoying quirks with it.

I was able to record some ingame footage with the BioShock Demo when it came out, using FRAPS, but couldn't get it to do anything with Crysis Demo, at the settings I had in Crysis Demo, I was getting probably 25-30fps, but when I used FRAPS, I Was lucky if I got 10-15 in some areas, some parts of the demo level, I was pulling 30fps, but other areas it would drop to less than 10, turn off FRAPS, & run same level, same area, most it would drop to was maybe 20... so there was definitely some conflict with the game, framerates & running Fraps.

keep in mind this was on a Dual Core, Core 2 Duo E6400, 3GB DDR2 800MHz, 320MB 8800GTS, & game run off of main 250GB 16MB Cache SATAII drive, with FRAPS recording to my 2x 80GB 8MB Cache RAID 0 setup... so wasn't a read/write issue with drives.

then I read somewhere about many others having troubles running FRAPS with Crysis.

though I haven't tried them in a long time, there are some other apps out like FRAPS, Growler GunCam is one, & their is one or two others that are nice too. GameCam is another.

might want to give those a try, trial/demo/free versions, see if they work better.

Good to hear that.

many games, not all, have built in framerate counters, do a google search for them, usually Console Commands or some files need to be edited, etc...
