Multimedia Audio Controller

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 (3.06Ghz) SP3 with Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1

I did a creative diagnostics test and it says all drivers are fine etc. Moreover, my speakers work fine. However, when I turn on the computer a pop up appears saying new hardware found ' Multimedia Audio Controller' I put my Creative installation disk to install it but in the end it says 'Cannot install'

Also in device manager 'Multimedia Audio Controller' is under other devices with yellow background and question mark next to it. I try to update using the method above with no luck.

Please help to resolve this problem! Thank you

Does your pc by chance also have on-board sound?

On board sound? My Creative SB Live! 5.1 is an internal sound card. I use 2.0 speakers with are Altec Lansing But the sound card is installed into one of the PCI slots I have

:S They came with my Dell when I bought it in 2003.

Let me be more clear, in addition to the add-on sb live card does your motherboard also have on-board sound? That could be the multimedia device that is not installed.

In the device manager if the SB live card is installed properly is would be clearly labeled and the multimedia device could be something else. Heck I think modem can even show as a multimedia device.
