How to test my system stability?

Hey, how would you guys recomend i run my system at full load, so i can test the cpu/system temps and what not? Are there any programs that will run it at full load for you or should i just load up a game such as counterstrike and let it idle for a few hours ingame or what?

Thanks

Umm..hmmm...as far as I know you could try 3DMark2001 and that would run the system at full load (and your graphics card at full load). That'll see if the temps of both your vid card and CPU will overheat.

And yes you could just run a game or you could even run a demo if you have say Q3 or UT. Get a really intense demo that has alot of stuff happening so that you can truly test a fully loaded system.

There are several options for this. I use the distributed computer programs out there, like ECCP or UD project applications to test stability ( http://www.techimo.com/teams.html ). They run the system at 100% except when you are using the system, then it scales back to let the CPU handle whatever you are doing. Also, you can run loops of 3D Mark ( http://www.madonion.com/ ).

Good luck. A grat program is Motherboard Monitor ( http://mbm.livewiredev.com/download5.htm ). This will check temps for you. An Intel CPU shouldn't go above 50C (not sure about PIV specs) and an Athlon should not go above 60C.

Good luck
Dave

Here's what you need to get your cpu at 100% without having to open any other applications.

HumorPalace,

My suggestion on how to find out how stable your box is to load any one of our Distributed Computing projects, join the team and run your computer for about 7 to 10 days. Make sure you run it 24/7 to make darn sure it really is stable. Check on your stats every day or so to make sure that it is really running 100% cpu and the DC is sending out results 24/7.

Trust me a few hours of games or benchmark is not really enough to maxed out the cpu. You know, tire out the system. So 7 to 10 days minimum. Enjoy building your box and testing it.

Don't forget to tell your new teamates that you have joined.
