help with compaq nc6000

Can anyone help me with my hp compaq nc6000??? im having hardware problems its an old laptop now but has always worked fine,now it wont always turn on it starts to boot up then after about 5secs turns back off again but when it does turn on some times the screen just turns off on its own but the fans carry on runing,ive looked on ebay and theres alot of them with the same problem so im guessing its a common problem,i want to fix it but dont want to buy parts i dont need as the laptop not worth that much anymore.

It's probably overheating because the cooling tract is clogged with dust. Get a can of compressed air and use it to blow air into the intake on the bottom of the laptop while it's running. If you feel adventurous, do a partial disassembly and dust it out good.
