| Building a computer for friend(3rd COMPUTER !)
This is the son
I am no longer that helpless little kid you all use to know that needed help with compatibleness and stuff lol.
This is my 3rd computer build i have done mine-church- and this one now also some other friends have been asking me but their not sure if they should just buy their on or build it. So anyway heres one i put togeter.
I tend to favor the thermal take as a case and quad core and ati video cards and mobos(although he demanded nvida =[ )
Plans on doing not to hardcore gaming just mmos like warhammer and WoW and maybe a few others and hes hoping to do it on max Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg |

That power supply is pretty expensive.
That ram is extremely expensive, I'd take 8GB of DDR2 800 for $80 over 4GB of DDR2 1066 for $80 any day.
That graphics card sucks for the price. You can get the 4850 which will waste that 8800 GT for cheaper. I wouldn't get an 8800 GT unless it was under $80. |

That's a very nice build.
It should handle just about any game you want to throw at it.

Yay.. Nvidia setup!
I'm a big fan of Nvidia. No arguements from me on the Mobo. You can save some money and not get the FTW, but just get the plain 750i.
I myself would not go for the 8800GT. In a $1000 rig, I would go for a 9800GTX+. Also you really don't need to spend that kind of money on a PSU. I understand PC&P units are very good. But you can save a good chunk of money and get something like a OCZ, Silverstone, something along those lines and save a good bit of money.
The RAM is overkill unless you plan to be OCing a lot. You could save money there too.
The case really is personal preference, but you should really check into the Coolermaster 690. They even have a Nvidia edition, for the true fanboy. Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER NV 690 NV-690C-KWN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases
or the plain Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases
I myself have one of these, and they are awesome cases. They are fun to mod, and are plenty big for anything you want to throw in there. I have a entire water setup inside of mine, including the RAD with no issues. It has tons of spots for fans and what not too, so cooling is not a issue either.
They also just released the HAF not to long ago too.
Of course, all of this is IMO.
EDIT:
I'm slow tonight.. |

Overkill means you are spending 2x as much for something you probably will never be able to use.
Like buying a ferrari for the speed alone when you can't drive anywhere over 60mph. |

No, because DDR2 will be dead soon.
Intel is releasing a new lineup in a few weeks and it'll be all DDR3 from then on (AMD will likely move to DDR3 next spring with their new lineup as well). |

DDR2 wont die for a year or two, but its on its way so there is a tad bit of life left for it before it goes away.

seriously, not bad, I didn't see the first list of parts, but from the few comments & the new list, not bad at all, still a tad bit of improvement, but this list is far more well balanced & properly selected than past ones were
DDR2 won't be "Dead" for at least a good year or two, it will be sentenced to Death row, but not put in the chair just yet...
Can't drive anywhere over 60? maybe by you, but some of us live in states with highways with 65 as the limit, as well as many law enforcement agencies who may let many motorists get away with a bit more on those said roads... add in roads that are known to be "low" priority for law enforcement patrols, as long as the state your in doesn't have a ban on Radar Detectors (not sure how Wisconsin is on the use of those?), drops the chances of getting caught WAY down, if your using one of those on an open straight "barren" roadway... still a small chance of getting caught, but not nearly as likely. (one of the benefits of living in a more rural area of the state with a major highway & a county with a very small number of Sheriff deputies & minimal local Police forces...)
anyways, could also always take it to the local airport & get permission to make a few runs down the mile long runways...
back on topic, as to Intels new lineup, yeah that'll be happening, but it'll be several months before the new platform & lineup filters down to all the other budget ranges of systems, as well as before AMD offers their competing lineup adding to the mess of new platforms... once that has happened, then you can almost certainly say DDR2 is dead. right now we're approaching the calm before the storm before DDR3 is really here, just like just before DDR went out & DDR2 came in, if you remember DDR2 was around for awhile before it really hit big.
anyways, still, Oldfolks, not a bad list indeed. few tweaks, mainly personal preference tweaks, & would be a great list... but as it stands now, not bad at all. |
