If you want XP, the Dell Vostro 1710 would be a good choice. No crapware. |

Purchasing a laptop has become a higher priority. I am considering paying up to $2500 to include a mac. What I need is durability, internet, office(word, excel, power point), wireless internet connection and a screen no bigger than 17". I prefer to stay with WIN XP Pro over Vista.I am considering a separate monitor for home use(docking station), 22". Purchased a Dell 22" LCD at work for $206.00 recently. |

I can say that if a mac does whatever you need, then it is worth the extra moola. Some people on this forum may disagree, but that is my opinion. They are not the most versatile machines but they are simple, very reliable, powerful, and good looking. If you have the money I'd get a nice macbook pro. |

That looks pretty good. I still recommend looking at a Refurbished version of a macbook pro. I saved ~35% by buying my black macbook refurbished. I'm sure you can lower that $2158.95 down by a couple a hundred bucks. If you are on any budget at all, those are substantial savings. If you wanna buy new though, thats fine.
Here are the refurbs Refurbished Mac - Apple Store (U.S.)
