| a $900 PC?
I really need a new computer, but I'm not sure where to purchase a good one for a low price. I don't really know much about computers (which is one of the reasons why I'm here), so I don't know exactly what I need on my new computer. I want a computer that is already built though.
What I need is a good, reliable PC with more than enough space, a speedy processor, and everything else necessary for playing graphically intense online games. However, I don't need a printer, scanner, or anything like that. I just want to be able to play all the new games, watch dvds, and do other things that people usually do on the computer. I don't want to purchase another computer for a while, so I would like it to be easily configurable.
I gathered my money up, and I currently have $900 to spend on a PC. I know this isn't much, but it's all I can afford. I have been to dell.com, but I'm sure some of you know of much better places to buy computers. When I buy from the popular companies, I always feel like I'm getting cheated. I also visited cyberpowerpc.com, but they had too many customer complaints. I have also been to newegg.com, but I need a computer that is already built.
That's my problem. I just need to know somewhere to buy something like that for under $900. I'll be watching this thread for a while, so feel free to ask any questions you have that I didn't answer already. Thanks |

Have you looked at Sam's Club. They have a loaded HP with 17" monitor for $899. Know 3 folks right now that have purchased this machine and have had 0 problems...

I will say that when I ordered my PC from cyberpowerpc years and years ago (when they first started out) I was extremely pleased. I ordered another one for my sister and grandparents about a year later and I was still very pleased. So I wouldn't count them out..plus there are thousands of places to order stuff online.
Why not from Dell? Sure it is a big company and such but they have some reallly nice systems for a really nice price. We have them in our computer lab at my college and they work great...speedy and stable and cool looking But keep looking around on the internet too. Or maybe someplace local to ya.

First of all, 900.00? ouch!
For a good gaming machine is going to be very hard when you consider that a good graphics card will be 250-300 of the price. A DVD DRIVE adds at least another 150.00 and the good ones will be in the 350-400 range. All of the good combos come up in the 1200-1400 price range.
Below i have included a link for you to look as a starting point(no display-its extra): http://queen.pricewatch.com/search/s...tems+-+Windows
I dont even recognize a lot of the companies names but the prices are very good. Just be careful buying over the net.
The company I bought my last computer from has a game machine starting for 799.00 here: http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...ry_Code=GAMING
BUT I sells without a DVD Drive nor Monitor.
I wish you good luck in your hunt.

I recommend HP also (then dell). I really like them. I've bought several open box ones for dirt cheap prices (from some place on eBay). I made sure to get the ones that were marked either open box (not used) or bad CDR drive (easy to replace).
TigerDirect is good too: http://www.tigerdirect.com |

Shampoo,
The Dell quality and service has always had a good reputation and if you shop around their closeout/discount/get it outta my face department, you can scare up some good deals.
If you are interested in a machine from someplace else on the web, the PLEASE, BEFORE YOU PULL THE TRIGGER, check out our own ResellerRatings right here: Reseller Ratings
to see what other folks have to say about the online retailer you may be considering.
Champaign Computer is on that has gotten consistenly high marks for integrity and service. Champaign Computer

A $350-400 dvd drive???? Whoa, where u buying those from?! I payed like <$70 for mine and it plays DVD's just fine. I haven't even seen one that expensive actually. Are we talking about a DVD drive or a burner here? Cuz you can get a full featured REAL dvd player and a bunch of movies for that much $$$. You can also get a pretty good video card for around $150, probebly less if you shop around... It won't be the best of the best... But it will be more than good enough to play all the games out there at 1024x768x32 and still be pushing ~60fps.

Whoa...
Hold on buddy, I think you are overpricing just a bit... you can get a dvd-rw for less then $400!!!
A $150 Geforce3 ti200 vid card ain't nothing to scoff at either. I have to agree with most of the previous posts. A dell or HP would suit you just fine. If you are going to buy on line I can't help but back Tomterrific... check resellerratings.com it will save you alot of headaches.
Also shop around and take your time, check online resources and come back here asking questions there is always someone in this place willing to share an opinion. |

$900 shouldnt be too hard to keep under budget. I would recommend a Dell, but that might be a little pricy.
no1_vern, where are you getting your prices from?? Dont scare this guy away |
