Got most of the bits, just waiting on the case and PSU.
I want to check it "outside" of the case before i assemble it all.
What are the minimum components needed to do this?
Heres what i done so far...
MOBO
CPU
HEATSINK/FAN
ONE STICK RAM
GFX CARD
PSU ( when it arrives )
Is that right?

yep. that's correct.
Make sure you place the board on cardboard, and not the anti-static bag. |

Thanks KK for that.
I've got it resting on the piece of foam that is in the MOBO box. Is that ok or does it have to be cardboard or similar?
A quick dumb question....Shorting out the power pins with a screwdriver turns the power on. How is power switched off? |

I wouldn't have it on that. Just put it on your desk or something non-conductive (and something that won't melt easily, like foam might).
You can do the same thing to turn it off. |

Just make sure it posts, and then once it does, shut down and add in all the ram/gpu/whatever else, minus HDD/DVD drive. If all is well, tear down and install it in the case.
Now if it doesn't post in the case, you know it's not a hardware issue, it's a grounding or something. |
