Ok guys every time I schedule a scandisk and reboot my system halts after scandisk has completed. And then I force my pc into a hard reboot (hold power down for 5 seconds). When I bring it back up it starts scandisk again and will not stop this cycle! Is there anyway to advert this so I can run scandisk occasionally? I've done three reinstalls of windows and still can't get it to work properly! I tried to got into safe mode still doesn't work. I even tried to fix the MBR even though it should not have effected it! WHAT CAN I DO?

On windows XP when you tell it to do a scandisk. It will throw a box up at you saying that there are system files in use. You need to restart your computer to do a scandisk.
I don't know what is causing the problem. With that many reloads and all the other items you have done.
The only suggestion I could make would be to find the scandisk.exe file on your cd. Then do a copy and paste and replace the file in the system folder. It could be windows istaller went nuts when you installed XP.
Whoa... You can probably get a disk utility from the manufacturer of your hard drive that will work outside of Windows. I'd try that first. Doing a low level format will wipe off all data before you have any chance of getting anything off the drive. That's what I'd do if I suspected a hard drive problem...
