No Sound on HP NC6000

Long story, short version.

I plugged a set of personal headphones into my NC600 (first time I've ever done that), and the sound was intermittent. Now I have no sound at all, headphones or speakers on the notebook (previously I had sound on the speakers). Is it possible inserting the headphone plug into the jack has damaged the jacks connection to the motherboard?

If so, where can I get instructions on opening up the beast to get a look and possibly repair?

Any other ideas on the problem?

In my experience the head phone jack dis-connects the speaker output. Have you tried simply rapidly
inserting then pulling out the phone jack a few times?
