Ok honestly, idk whether or not that 9800 is so good. My 4670 was 60$ and was that class or above that 9800. Though...it was 60$ because it would break after awhile . Forget geting a new tv :P, with my integrated card i cant really play games very well. So what can i do for 150$ base, i understand shipping would be more, im sure i can scrounge enough.
edit...
LIKE THIS
Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-1155-TR GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

lol, i just randomly found it, cant even find the PSU req. and havnt read reviews yet.

sorry to be so blunt, but clocks don't mean shit. (they do, but not in the way your talking about)

their 2 different cards, chip brands etc.

if clock speeds were all that mattered, then Nvidia cards wouldn't be able to destroy ATI cards in situations like processing data for Folding@Home, etc...

Nvidia card generally have lower clock speeds and less Stream Processors than ATI cards, but easily compare or even in many cases beat them, it has to do a lot with the architecture of the cards, and how efficient the layout of the individual components of those Stream processors, etc are.

ATI takes the Higher count, faster SP approach, Nvidia the opposite, both seem to work well, but as it is, with nvidia's, the "bandwidth" of data per SP seems to be greater than ATI's.

in the end, they come out the same or similar performance.

thats why in general the 4670's have been compared with geforce 9600GT's, 4830 with 9800GT, 4850 with 9800GTX+/GTS 250 and original GTX 260's, 4870's with GTX 280's (the two latter GTX models being just a notch ahead of the radeons), 4890 being just behind a GTX 275/285 etc...

Radeon 4870x2 has been compared with GTX 285's, but considering its a Dual GPU card, its kind of strange to be compared with a single GPU card, should be compared with a GTX295, but easily gets it butt handed to it when compared with that card.

4850x2's are only made by Sapphire and are kind of a hybrid card, probably comparable to a single GTX 280 at least, for less money, but requires more power, better cooling, also the longest video card on the market currently, so requires plenty of room.

also keep in mind, your 4670 is 128-bit memory bus, the 9800GT has 256-bit, twice the data bus.

for years, thats how 128-bit cards have been keeping pace with ones with higher bus rates, ramping up the clock speeds for memory and core, etc...

even a 9600GT has 256-bit. but at 64 Stream Processors, its core count is quite a bit less, so that drops its performance down to the 4670's range.

there's a lot of factors that come into a cards performance than just pure clock speeds.

Number of Shader/Stream Processors, the efficiency and layout of the architecture of those processors, Memory Bus Bandwidth (32, 64, 128, 192, 256, 384, 512, etc etc bits), many many things, besides just clock speeds.

if it were just clock speeds then by that thinking your 4670 should beat my GTX 285 in raw performance.

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100255HDMI Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

vs

Newegg.com - Open Box: MSI N285GTX-T2D1G-OC GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

but I can tell you that won't ever happen LOL...

shipping should generally be about the same.

cards weights and sizes don't vary that much to significantly jack up the shipping rates.

4670 was a class down from the 9800GT, its close, but the 9800GT was a class or notch above, more comparable with a Radeon 4830 and 4770 instead.

I see, i apparently have been brainwashed by nerds that the clocks were most important.

that 2nd one is another step up from the 9800GT.

it went 9800GT, then 9800GTX, then the 9800GTX+ replaced that one (incremental improvement and refined smaller process chip based on the predecessor), and the "new" GTS 250's are still the same chip as the 9800GTX+. maybe some very minor differences, but since you can run both together in SLI, the differences are just that, minor.

GTS 250 tends to be cheaper than the 9800GTX+ now days though.

still Evga and XFX are 2 of the best brands to go with as far as warranty and returns, etc.

have been a fan of XFX longer than Evga, but am a fan of both, as well as BFG.

years ago after Gainward and one or two others disappeared from the market, I started to like XFX, and BFG, then evga. PNY came back a few years ago, not as big as they once were, but they are back, Gainward was bought up and merged with one of the other lesser brands on the market, I forget if it was Galaxy or one of those. Diamond finally started to make a come back with the last generation of two of Radeon cards, but not quite back like they once were 10 years ago as well.

anyways, Evga and XFX, as well as BFG and Gigabyte seem to be the best brands to go with these days.

I like MSI, usually some of the best performance for price, at least in my experience, but I have only owned two Evga in my lifetime and thats my current 9800GTX sitting on the shelf right now, and the old 7800GT I had (actually had it paired with an XFX 7800GT as well).

but for the last 10 years these are the brands I've owned...

PNY Geforce 3 Ti-500, 3 Ti-200, 320MB 8800GTS
ECS Geforce 512MB 8800GTS
XFX Geforce 7800GT
Evga Geforce 7800GT, 9800GTX
MSI Geforce 4 Ti 4200, 4 MX 440, 6600GT, GTX 285
Gainward Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128MB 8x AGP (Factory OC'd to Ti 4800 rating)
Leadtek Geforce 6600GT, 6800GT

Gigabyte Radeon 9700 Pro
Sapphire Radeon 4870 (2 cards)
Powercolor Radeon 4830

3DFX Voodoo 2 Banshee
3DFX Voodoo 3 3000
3DFX Voodoo 3 3500
3DFX Voodoo 5 5500

not included is a ATI Rage Fury 32MB card (TV tuner integrated), and a few Nvidia TNT/TNT 2 cards, I forget the brands.

as you can see I've mostly own Nvidia/Geforce cards, and PNY/MSI being the brands I've owned most of.

mainly due to the availability of the cards at the time they were out, and price versus performance, the 320MB 8800GTS from PNY was bought from one site for lowest price on the net from respectable retailers when the card came out, had to laugh when others spent another $50 or more for the same card from Newegg and its main competitors, unfortunately the site I bought it from went out of business, its parent company closed down or was sold off or something. I haven't checked lately, but it was back up, but all they had was shit products, low volumes, no real competitive pricing and selection of products was slimmed down to almost nothing.

if anyone remembers the old ClubIT.com site, they'll know what I'm talking about.

but if you can afford it, that GTS 250 might work, the PSU you have should have enough amps for the card, but not sure if the 400W rating is good enough, it should work though if a Radeon 4850 would work in it. GTS 250 competes with the 4850 just so you know, I think its just a notch below it, with the original GTX 260 with 192 SP's being just above it.

but for that price, you can grab a 512MB model for less, and would still be quite good, could even nab a GTX 260 recertified for less than that and end up with even more performance, Evga's Recertifieds carry a 90 day warranty while XFX carry's a 1 year warranty just so you know.
