I'll make a list too. | Uh, come on guys, jeeze, put those modding minds/skills to use, hack those double wide brackets down to a single bracket (with the block on that thing, its only a single slot card), and as for running more than 4, you only run 2 of those cards together, the rest as I said run independently for additional displays or Folding@home.
also its not 6 GPU's but 12 (2 on each card)
as to the connections for the tubing... don't they make right angle connectors to hook tubing to?

your joking? with 10 grand to spend? if it works, makes them fit, why not?
some people OC the snot out of their vid cards and fry them, with far lower budget ranges and financial constraints. not going to name any names, but... hint: a few or so posts above
just kidding, couldn't resist the chance to take a stab at them LOL |

I'm used to it, no worries..
And even I would not void the warranty on $500 GPU's. Sorry, I just couldn't. Mounting a water block won't void it on xfx and evga cards I know for sure, I'm sure bfg is the same. But cutting the pci brackets, no freakn way.
EDIT:
I think we're at about 2500 or so.

then just remove the rear brackets if possible and replace with single bracket piece (just need to find a single bracket replacement somewhere with dual DVI, etc) then need to send back in, reattach the original brackets.
seriously though, I already told Aaron, but the above list was never a serious one anyways, given the insane 10 grand budget, threw together the most absurd system could in budget range, or as close as I could. whether anyone here would cut the brackets or not, its still a theoretically possible scenario none the less.
will make my own, serious one later, leave enough for watercooling since thats not my area of "expertise". |

We got a real good start. Thought about doing dual 1366's boards, but man there is just no point.
So far I believe it's the 975, classified, tri sli 285's, intel SSD, SICK water cooling setup, not sure about a case yet. I pointed him towards mountain mods last, I think he was digging those. |

Dual 1366 would be good for 3D modeling and what not, add in a GTX 295 for gaming, and would be good to go, but your limited to more expensive 1366 Xeons if thats the case. looking at prices of them, seems to be a good 50-100% price increase for Xeons over comparable Core i7 models.
Could find a board with SAS & SATAII ports and a couple/few 15K RPM SAS drives and SSD's.
anyways, will look into that later. |

Yeah, I looked into those boards and I couldn't see paying for one. Unless you really needed those boards for servers, I just can't see paying for one.
IDK, I also brought up the option of 2 systems in one case, and he didn't like that.
It's hard to say what I would with this kind of budget. Probably close to the same lines as what I gave him, but with mucho ssd's. |

With 10 Grand though, he could EASILY afford a top end Quad, and a top end Quadro card, that would take care of the 3D modeling part, hell, even afford the one Quadro card geared towards Photoshop 4 or whatever it is, maybe even through in one of the Quadro Cuda CX cards...
and still have some money for a half dozen or so SSD's.
off I go to newegg to configure something LOL, while I finish my morning tea |
