I guess 1TB exceedes 1TB.....
Hey, ghost use to cost much more, last I looked it was $90 (I think).
I tried DriveImage, but it could not go from a large drive to a smaller drive. Perhaps I messed up the settings...
Anyways, I got it taken care of for now. I'm up on Win 7 (liking it mostly) and I have a back up of XP that I can boot from.

Just in case anyone else needs a backup product, I just got word from Avanquest than a new version of V-Com's Perfect Image, v.12, is released and that they have an intro offer of $30. instead of $50. Here is what their tech support said re. amdkt7's issue: I Quote:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Avanquest Technical Support.
Yes Perfect Image can do this using the clone tool
Thank you,

| I hope this helps someone. It says "limited time offer" but their offers tend to go long... Here's the link: Redirect to the target website

Curious. How is Perfect Image better than the rest?

I don't know that it is but it can do what the OP wanted while apparently others can't. But as I wrote in an earlier post, you can resize a partition and image it after it's shrunk - the same end.

Finally... Acronis has updated their software (they did not tell me...). My overly pricey software lives again. I have not gone all the way and cloned my drive, as I don't currently have a drive to test it on. I need to consolidate a few drives, but it makes me nervous that I might loose some data....
But I did get past the point where it would not go before. I think the problem is solved. |

Well, Avanquest has caught a clue and aren't letting their deals run on and on like they used to. Just got a message that says only 2 days left.

In general Acronis is a good solution, but if all else fails I suggest you just backup your files manually without creating an image, the image file will take ages to be created with such large amounts of data..advantage of that being it's somewhat compressed too! (depending on settings). |

(depending on settings). | He said his drive size was 1TB, not his data. I've got 35GB on my primary drive and it takes about 15min to create an image with Acronis.
Backing-up files manually without creating an image makes it impossible to restore a bootable drive.
As a general rule, if it's data (i.e. photos, WP docs, etc.) file by file backup is more efficient. If one wants to preserve a bootable OS with installed apps, an image is the way to go. |
