| Need software to create disk images
I was using Acronis True Image Home 2010, but now I can't because as the release notes say, "Clone operation may fail when the size of the volume being cloned exceeds 1TB".
I can clone my other smaller drives, but I can not clone the 1TB drive. I also tried my older copy of Acronis True Image, but it will not work with my new mobo. Goes to a blank screen.
What I need is software (like Norton Ghost) that will either clone my hd, or make an image.

That looks like a good option. I'll check it out when I get back home. |

Nuts. Good program, but would not go clone from larger drive to smaller drive.
I finally used the WD free version of Acronis to back up and then restore to the smaller drive. Clone would not work with that program either.
It took some messing around to get it to done, but at last I booted off the 500 gig drive.
Still no help from Acronis about their expensive software that does not work.... Grrrrr |

This page lists a lot of backup programs http://majorgeeks.com/downloads3.html
- I call your attention to Macrium Reflect...
IAC, there is another way. If the data on your large drive fits on less than 500 GB, then you could resize the partition to less than 500GB and then image that. Acronis's other tool is a good partition manager, if you don't already have something else. MajorGeeks.com mirrors some good ones of those too. A good defragging/optimizing prior to doing the resize or image will usually make the imaging/resizing go faster.
Often there is more than one way to skin a cat... MG also has nice defragger/optimizers. I look for all my software tools there first. They make suggestions for several categories of Utilities in the INFO menu on the right side of the screen under: "Top Freeware Picks".

It may well be too late for you issue, but maybe you could post what OS you are/were using in case that has any limiting factors on what is available to be used....?!?
Personally, I've been using "PowerQuest Drive Image 7.0" but that doesn't seem to work on anything newer than XP - although I'm curios to know how it would/could cope with imaging a later OS from within XP....

I was using XP sp3. But that did not matter as I used both the rescue cd to boot from, also tried from within windows also.
I hope they (Acronis) fixes their software, since I paid for it... |

| But does a 1TB drive exceed 1TB? A 1.5TB drive would...

You can also try Ghost 14. I stopped using it after version 9 but based upon the high user rating I may return to it. You may also look at DriveImage XML 2.12 (free).
