    New Computer Build

I'm planning on trying to build a new computer this summer. Will probably buy a piece or two at a time as I can afford it. Anyways, what do you think of this setup:

    https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/P...umber=11751211

Computer will be used for some casual gaming as well as watching movies and working on engineering projects.

    Looks pretty good.

My only suggestion would be getting a different video card such as a HIS Radeon HD 5770 1GB. It will give you much better performance than a 9800 GTX+ and it supports DX11.

I think you need a power supply.

Are the engineering projects done in Cad/Cam?

If so, a workstation card may be a better choice... Newegg.com - ATI 100-505533 FireMV 2260 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Low Profile Workstation Video Card

Also, are you planing on overclocking? As far as I can tell, the board chosen doesn't support the RAM unless OC'd

Um, just as a note, The FireMV series cards, though supporting some basic 3D features/tech, like OpenGL 2.0 etc, are NOT really designed/intended for 3D intensive apps or CAD/CAM purposes, their more intended for Multi media/video and Multi Display setups.

if your Looking at ATI 3D CAD/CAM products, The FireGL series is what they should be looking at.

Anyone care to comment on bigBonehead's comment, is it true that this ram must be overclocked? Also what do you think of the motherboard. You may suggest alternatives for my components but I'd like to start building this computer soon cause I need one real bad.

K I've updated my build to this:

    https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...px?ID=19391988

Please let me know what you think ASAP, I wanna start ordering some of this stuff. Still need advice on RAM though.

Wish list isn't working, I don't think its set for public.

just open up to tabs in your browser, one here, one newegg, on newegg go to your wishlist, then right click on each items link/description, and copy the link, and then paste into your post here, do that for each item, and then we can easily see the list of items better.

Neweggs, Wish list feature has gotten worse and worse in functionality and reliability and ease of use over the years, and is almost utterly useless these days really, only reliable for sending a copy via email, and even then occasionally screws up.

I only use it on their site for personal records or reminders of things I eventually need or need to buy for others, like people I build/upgrade for, etc.

Missing a Power Supply for that list.

as to suggestion for RAM, I presume you won't be doing any overclocking, if so this should be fine for your needs.

    Newegg.com - GeIL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10660) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model GV36GB1333C9TC

if you think 6GB will be too much, then 4GB should be fine.

    Newegg.com - GeIL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10660) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model GV34GB1333C9DC

I listed 6GB since depending on what your working for engineering and related software, you might need the extra RAM for projects.

but 4GB should be good for starters.

just remember you'll need 64-bit version of Windows to use all that memory. Windows 7 64-bit is fine.

Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - Operating Systems

as to a Power Supply, if your not going to be adding a 2nd Video card for crossfire, this one should be more than enough for your entire rig

    Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

Alright sweet yeah, 6 GB will probably be the best anyways. Yeah I knew I didn't have a power supply but wasn't sure how big of one I would need. Thanks for the advice!
