Increase speed by disabling wireless?
This tip was posted on our intranet page.
Would disabling my wireless card have a noticeable impact on the performance of my laptop? For the best possible computer performance, disable your wireless card when using a wired connection or docking station.

Hrm its one less thing your computer is doing, but I don't think it would be noticeable. It would save battery more than anything

Disabling the WIFI card is a good idea as a security precaution, too.

I think would be faster if disabled it in the router if not needed.
Won't see much a difference disabling in the lappy, but every bit helps.DynaIndex.com - Dynamic search index of websites, links, feeds, title, description, keywords and thumbnail snapshot.

Isn't this something you could test in a matter of minutes

I seem to recall having an issue with this where I worked before, when the (user's) lappy was hooked up to the LAN, but also had the wireless connection up (and connected to the WLAN), then the speed that they saw for accessing their files (esp e-mail/PST, IIRC) was degraded to the point that it was noticed.
I believe that we did a wireshark capture and saw that it was sending packets on both NICs and was getting it's knickers in a twist when it was sent back. Another option could also be to set the hop 'cost' to a higher metric, so that it would try to send down the network cable before it tried the wireless - rather than trying to send down both.I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...

So you see, there is a security risk!
