| help, been hit by a nasty virus
my dads laptop got a nasty virus from a work partner, the virus will kill norton antivirus if you try running it, its on a laptop running windows xp, for some reason i cant scan his laptop from my computer on teh network, it wont let me see him, any suggestions on how to get rid of this sucker, its a tough one and as you all know reloading operating systems on laptops can be a b****, would a rescue disk for dos run on a laptop with xp, seeing as how xp doesnt have dos. or am i dead wrong?
jak
btw he said it left a error message that read: brnd.log when he first got it, i can seem to find the .log file on the hdd. any help would be very very very appreciated |

well if it is XP can he not revert back to the last backup of xp.. and get rip of the virus that way?
u might also try www.sarc.com its a online detecter.. it may find it.. and then it can tell u how to clean the system.. even as small programs ment to cleanr certian viruses

Get norton antivirus and have your laptop boot from cd-rom(norton antivirus cd is bootable) by going into the bios and changing the boot order. It has everything there needed to save your computer : ) |

The CD will not have the virus pattern or scan engine to clean it. This sounds like the Kleaz virus, go to Trend and download the fix tool and follow directions. Once the virus is killed, reinstall Norton and update scan engine and virus pattern. Scan and repair damage. |
