Add/Remove programs - in registry?

Lets say I have an application that is damaged. As a consequence it will not uninstall properly from the add/remove programs inside the control panel. I remove files and registry entries for associated program. When I open add/remove programs however, the application is still listed. Where does the "list" of "applications installed" reside?

you can also search the entire registry and delete each entry in order to remove all the registry entries made by the damaged program....

Yep, that's exactly what I do when I want to get the most clean uninstall possible. Even when you uninstall programs, it always leaves junk behind in the registry and your best bet to get rid of them would be to press CTRL+F and do a search...
