    Memory...

So, I'm curious to see who prefers which maker of RAM. And, if you don't mind me asking, why?

Crucial, Corsair, or Mushkin in that order, or whatever's cheapest of those three at the time

Kingstons good too, and would buy it if the prices is right, but the first three are prefered by me - I bought a Kingston SODIMM because it was much cheaper than any other brand name company at the time.

I go with AuraEdge. I think RAM is more like a commodity-doesn't matter which brand of sugar you buy, its all sweet.

Besides, there are very few actual manufacturers of RAM in the world because of the complexities of manufacture and high capital cost. This is a very volume-sensitive business. Most companies just re-brand it after ensuring it conforms to their QC standards.

    Same's true of hard drives.

AuraEdge has the right idea. I'm not sure about the others, but Crucial has a lifetime warentee as well.

one thing u have to remember shahani.. in some cases Ram isn't just ram.. cheap ram can and well effect your system.. from freezes to crashes.. start up probs.. and in my case I need fast.. good ram.. working with graphics.. last thing I need is my system freezing in the middle of working.. =)

and u pointed out.. RAm is complex to make.. and this being so.. there is high quality.. and low quality.. though some is rebranded.. some is rebranded, b/c it failed the companies QC check.. whcih means u might get the ram 10 bucks cheaper.. but u have a 50% great chance of failure.. =)

I haven't had a problem with Kingston or Crucial. I would choose Kingston over Crucial. Kingston is what I voted for. Just like the others, I will go on if the price is right.
Never had any first hand experience with Mushkin but have heard it's great RAM, especially if you want to OC.

I use Mushkin PC2700 RAM because Crucial didn't have 512mb sticks of it when I was building my new system. I've tried cheap memory in the past and there's a very noticeable difference in performance and stability--don't go cheap!

I'm using some generic crap right now

DDR flavoured PC2100 that wont go any higher than 143mhz CL2

hmm come to think of it that's pretty good for generic right?

I use Samsung and they've never given me problems compatibility wise or quality wise... And because I'm not an overclocker or benchmark addict, I haven't had the need to buy anything better....

    YUP, even my weedeater

I use crucial most of the time, but have used kingston without any problems, for that matter I have used generic without problems. I'm not a heavey gamer though, or into graphics design. Mostly into music, and webbased stuff. but I do use my cd-rw a lot. I think kingston is what is in this second box, and crucial is in the main, or other way round

Usually what the local store has I buy. Figure in shipping, and so on, for me it's about the same price, and I don't have to wait. I hate to wait
The impossible takes more time, and costs more money.

Crucial is best on a money/performance basis, but if you want really good ram, Corsair XMS, Mushkin, or Samsung will beat down Crucial.

I have Corsair now. 2400 that runs at 2700 with no sweat. Those other ones are also quality. I wouldn't mind Crucial.
