    Question HP Pavillion bradcasting...

A friend purchased an HP midtower CoreI3 With Win 7. They do not have, or plan to have a home network. Is there a way to tell if it is broadcasting a signal, allowing other computers to access it via wireless ? if so how to disable this ?

Hmmm ok.. Is that the the only way to determine if their computer is broad casting a wireless signal ? Can broadcasting be manually disabled ?

Uhh why not just check the specs and if it even has a wireless card just disable it in the device manager? Then if you still suspect something use NetStumbler, Wiki will tell you what it does BTW NetStumbler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In general you don't just gain access to a random computer just because it has a wifi card. I mean not many hackers are wardriving houses looking for a possible connection like that. But if its a real concern they should also be able to remove the card itself.

I would remove the card. But disabling it in the device manager is a solid second choice, if no other operating system will be used.
They are using a wired link to their internet router/modem, I take it?
