    Exclamation BF2 won't work!

Well, for a while now I was using a torrented version of BF2 which worked and patched to 1.5 I even installed the mod AIX and the Special Forces mod , all worked. Now I buy the game to be legal and uninstall BF2 and all the mods and everytime I try to start the damn thing I get an error. I don't know what it is. I looked at the event viewer to no joy. Here is the screen shot of task manager during starting the game.

BTW- How the hell do I get DirectX 10 off of here? I'm using XP 64 and I somehow installed DirectX 10. That might be a problem, but like I said I was playing the game before with no problems. Maybe a XP repair install is in order?

Well, I found a Direct X remover at Major Geeks but it won't work for XP 64, go figure!

I'm about to do a repair install and see if that works. The game starts and then a black screen appears with that error. I don't know why it's doing this.

Edit- Tried a repair install and the option wasn't there. Dammit all!

Found a tool called DirectX Eradicator that did the job, and I mean DID THE JOB! It wiped Direct X out but when I went to reinstall 9c dxdiag shows no Direct X version, although the files are there. I just started Flight Simulator and X3 Terran Conflict and they both worked. My frame rates haven't changed from uninstalling Direct X 10 though.

Still no joy on starting BF2. It just shows a black screen and the error in the task manager. I'm affraid I might have to reinstall the whole OS because I have been getting errors saying there was a driver missing when installing Comodo Firewall and Aviria. I uninstalled both of those two just to see what would happen. Still nothing.

Just a question here about the game itself, my son, who is a combat veteran of Iraq within this past year, says that the BattleField series is the most realistic combat experience (he's playing BattleField 3 currently on Xbox). What are your opinions on the pc version over the console version? I would have to play on pc for now.

Well graphics for one thing is a huge difference between the console and the pc. I still believe the 360 has a player limitation on it of 32 (anyone feel free to corrrect me if a patch changed this) where the pc can have a total of 64. Also depending on the person, some people prefer the keyboard/mouse over the 360 controller

Tax, if you are gonna rebuild then I guess this would be the perfect time to force the move to Windows 7 now

Bit off topic, but related to your comment.

...Then he hasn't played the ArmA series of games... BF series can't hold a candle to this series in realism and combat, I know some will disagree, but they haven't played this series most likely, and may be too complex for them, as its technically a Sim style game. If you can think of Microsoft Flight Simulator or similar games being close to reality, the ArmA series is in the same way to Combat and everything that can be done.

Game can be played like BF games, or can be played with utmost realism levels, communications, rankings, action, etc.

My brothers served 3 combat tours in Iraq over the last 6-8 years now, and though he plays the BF and COD games on Xbox 360, he too is mainly interested in playing the ArmA games on PC, since we used to play its original predecessor Operation Flashpoint back in the early 2000's, before he graduated high school and enlisted in the USAF.

There's so many Addons and mods for ArmA 2 (Current version), on my install of the game, I'm running about 60+ mods, have a few disabled, otherwise I'd be close to 70 mods, a friend of mine has over 150 mods running, but he installed half of them wrong and some are conflicting with others.

the game has a lot of configuring and customizing to do, to really get the good use out of the game.

But has some handy tools and apps to help with running things, and updating most common mods.

Just some of the videos of game play out there:

ARMA 2 multiplayer 50 player online cooperations - YouTube

Arma 2 combined ops multiplayer gameplay#1 (with attila16 and friends!) - YouTube

[HD] ArmA 2 - Multiplayer Choppers and Infantry - YouTube

ARMA 2 Military Simulator: A-10 Multiplayer Domination [HD] - YouTube

Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead * Multiplayer Domination CooP [ATI HD5970 + HQ 1080p] - YouTube

there's sound and visual effects mods to install that make things look and sound better as well, some of the visual effects mods I have found improve things in most areas, but falls short in effects in other areas, so its hit or miss with most of the enhancement mods, but its still well worth it IMO.

amazing thing is that this game is solely DirectX 9 based, has no DX10 or 11 optimization and looks that good. ArmA 3 coming out hopefully the end of the year will be DX10 and 11 capable, hopefully I'll be able to get some really good Multiplayer frame rates for once, LOL, I usually have about 25-30fps max, though sometimes it can spike to 100fps in some areas of some maps, depending on how many people are in the maps or how much content, AI, and action is happening elsewhere.

We play on our server with a bit of mix of BF type game play with realism game play, since many of us are not experts in military combat, or some of those that are/were in the US Forces back in the 70's (yes some of the guys I play with are nearly twice my age), just can't be arsed to hike or drive 20KM across a map to get to an objective so they use a HALO jump teleport to get to objectives in time.

I prefer to drive or fly to the objectives providing air support via A10 or F35 or Harrier Jump Jet, however I've gotten really proficient at taking out enemy armor in the allies Su-25 Frogfoot fighters found in some maps, using the bombing systems on the fighter, but still suck at free fall/retarded fall bomb systems on A10 and other craft, unless its a laser guided bomb with someone on the ground with designator lighting up a target for me. But have been finding fun with some of the addons and mods, using JDAM GPS guided weapons and using the GPS targeting systems while in the cockpit.

Back on topic, I agree with GZ, if your going to do a full OS reinstall, it'd be a good time to say bye bye to XP64 and hello to Win7 64.

Yeah, it looks more and more to a install of win 7. Do you know if BF2 will work in win 7? Or do you have to force compatibility? I really like BF2 and just bought the game with all the mods; Special Forces, Armored fury, and Euro Forces. I also like the mode called AIX.

BF2 runs fine in Win7 64, have run it with no problems before, along with AIX mod.

Well, good news! I borrowed a legit copy of XP 64 from my bro and was able to do a repair install. Now BF2 works. Now to reinstall AIX. But now the 1.5 patch I have to get AIX to work says it's already installed which it isn't. I cleaned the registry with two registry cleaners and I don't know what else I can do to make the patch install.

I have a lot invested in my current install. I have over 25 GB of flight simulator data I would need to transfer over plus all the installed add-ons would have to be reinstalled. Too much of a pain in the arse!

But good news! I got AIX to work. I first had to install the 1.41 patch then the 1.5 patch.

Depending on size of Hard drive or number of drives in PC... Clone XP64 drive, and Dual boot to Win7 64. Run XP64 for FS, and 7 for everything else.

Well, I got a new problem. Some asshole has stole my CD key! I just bought the game off eBay in a new sealed package and was able to join all the servers, now I can't hardly join any servers as it says "CD key in use" Then it says something about if your CD key was hijacked contact EA support. WTF! Never used any cheats at all.

Open a compliant with eBay to get refunded, there are ways to open those sealed games without breaking it

Shy has a good suggestion to start a dual boot situation, you can slow migrate your data over as your xp 64 dies on you

No, this game worked before and was well sealed. Now the CD key has been hijacked. Looks like I need to contact EA customer support to get a new key, but is it worth it? I have a felling one of the servers I was in took my CD key. I'm not sure which one though. I think I know. It was a sever without any patches so next time I'll just stay away from that shit and play the 1.5 servers. I have both versions on my desktop I copied the initial installation of to H drive and the patched so that gives me even more servers to choose from. Plus there's the WYD ( Who's your daddy) servers I was playing in before and they didn't patch the game, it's still 1.0.

    WYD Servers

Does anyone know the phone number to EA? I bought the game from a guy in Sweden and the support numbers are from Ireland on the manual.

Edit- I think this is it. Electronic Arts customer service phone numbers and support

Well that was a waist of time. I called and pressed 7 for other games and immediately the online recording said to go online. WTF! I want a live person to fix this issue.

Edit- Well another set back. I just tried logging into EA's customer support and it said "this service was unavailable. EA fucking sucks! PERIOD!
