    Question CPU fan won't spin

Hi people, hope you can help me. I've decided to build my own computer, just got all the parts and everything seems to work except the cpu fan which moves a bit then doesn't spin. I try to boot and just get a load of beeps of my mobo and an error code which in the manual says "Pre-memory North-Bridge initialization is started"
However, when I plug the fan into a normal sys header not the cpu fan header I still get errors but fan works.
    Specs:
    Motherboard:Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB
    CPU:Intel i7 2600K
    PSU: Antec HCP 1200 1200w
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance

    Hello and Welcome to TechIMO!

This said, in the title line you mention the CPU fan isn't spinning, but in the message you dont mention it.

If it's indeed not spinning, don't boot the pc with until you can test the fan or swap it out.

Try different ports on the pc (assuming it's a standard 3 pin, try other mobo ports)

Ideally, pull it out and test it by itself on another pc, by running it not attached to anything but a power lead from another computer with a proper running cpu/fan.
    Main PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit
    File Server: AMD Opteron 180 / 3gb DDR400 / Nvidia 6200 / WinXP Home 32bit / Lubuntu 12.10
    Laptop: HP-Compaq nc8430/ Intel CoreDuo T2400 / 2gb DDR2 667/ Ati x1600 / WinXP Pro 32bit

if your running a Dual Channel RAM kit, make sure the sticks are installed in the proper slots, if their in slots 1 and 3 right now, install then in 2 and 4 and try again.

RAM is installed right next to each other so I think that's fine. It wouldn't be the cpu do you think?

RAM in most Dual Channel configs Are NOT placed next to each other, unless the board only has 2 RAM Slots, if it has 4, most Dual Stick setups have an empty slot between them.

Quad Slot board: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

    reading the manual helps...

    ftp://download.gigabyte.ru/manual/mb...77x-ud5h_e.pdf

    downloaded from here: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB WIFI (rev. 1.0)

Look at attached Screen shot... as said, the sticks need to have at least one slot between them open for a dual stick setup.

ok, at least that has been entirely ruled out, aside from possibility that the RAM itself is defective, but at least its installed in proper slots.

You need to write down the beep codes and find out what they mean for your mobo. The problem could easily be unrelated to the CPU fan itself. You may need to contact Gigabyte for the beep codes but IME they're out there if you google hard enough.

They are usually in the format SHORT-SHORT-LONG or something like that. It is analogous to a check engine light on your car...your mobo has diagnosed a problem and is trying to tell you something...start there. There may be multiple codes, too.
