Trying to load win 7 fresh install from Flash drive problems

    Hi all,

I have a Gateway 4542gp laptop I want to load windows 7 on (has xp now), but I can't seem to get it to recognize and boot from my usb flash drive. I have changed the bios to boot first from network, from removable drives, and from the usb drive itself (as it shows up as a second HDD in bios as well).

I'm fairly sure I set up the usb drive properly, using wintoflash to burn the win 7 disc to the usb.

    I'm getting frustrated...what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance.

Is Wintoflash the new tool that MS put out? If not - you'd probably want to look for that.

    Thanks for the response, Steve.

I'm pretty sure the wintoflash program is working, and the issue is directing the bios to recognize that it should boot from it, but I'll try something I found at MS...

What is the bios supposed to be set to? As I said earlier:

"I have changed the bios to boot first from network, from removable drives, and from the usb drive itself (as it shows up as a second HDD in bios as well)."

    Which should it be?

    Thanks again.

Effin' A, Steve; you're the man.

I'd heard awesome reports on that wintoflash program, but the one from the Microsoft Website worked first reboot.

    Thanks again, man.
