| 3DMark 2001SE, 3DMark 2001 Questions
Hey all!
I know there are alot of different threads here about the results of the mentioned benchamrks but I can't seem to find any info on a search to my question.
The question(s):
Are people using 3Dmark 2001 or 3DMark 2001SE as the defacto benchmark on thier vid cards?
Why does it say " "The benchmark was not run using the default settings" ? I haven't changed anything - no o/c'ing of the video card or processor. I ran 2001SE at the defaults of 1024x768, 32 bit, Pure Hardware T&L. No tweaking. Huh??
Is a score of 6614 respectable on this setup??
Soyo Dragon Platinum Ultra
XP1800
768MB DDR
Leadtech GeForce 3 Ti200 (Det. Drivers v. 29.42)
40GB Maxtor ATA133 7200 rpm Primary drive
120GB RAID 0 (2x 60GB Maxtor ATA133's) storage
I run the same benchmark in ME and wind up with a score of 56xx . What's up with that? It also runs really "choppy" in ME.
When I check out MadOnions site, there's peeps getting a score of 9575. I'm sure most is o/'ed but is that 2001 or 2001SE? I can't seem to filter out the overclockers to find a regular standard.
Point me in the right direction as I'm confused now.
Thanks!

I have had the same problem with my system and I posted a question on the graphics cards and displays forum under Geforce 3 problems.
The suggestions were to Flash with the latest bios, download the latest agp drivers, and use a rivatuner.
There are links on that forum for the above but they may be specific to my set up so maybe someone can post links for your set up.
Hope that is of some help.

Went to a little more effort this time.
The rivatuner is at: www.nvworld.ru/downloads/rivatuner.zip
And the latest bios and agp drivers should be found on you motherboard website.
Happy Hunting. |

Ok, the reason your not getting the 9000+ score is basically the people over at MO are running for absolute best score they can get. They run totally "tweaked", altho they tweak for best performance, e.g. worst looking texture details etc.... Plus they run their video cards at insane overclocks (they use CPU heatsinks or watercooling, heck the guy that holds the highest true score (his name is macci) used a custom made phase-change cooler - i.e. same as a household freezer).
Also they only run the 4 game tests and nothing else, this is all that is required for 3dmark to create a score. Chances are the card are overclocked that high that it isn't stable enuff to complete the full series of tests.
As for your XP benchmark being higher than ME, basically ME is a pretty bad OS for most people, win98SE is faster (and usually more stable & compatible) than ME.
Hopefully this will shed atleast alittle light on the situation.

Oh, and also, your score may be higher using the non-SE version is because there was a bug that has been fixed in the latest release that when used with nvidia drivers, fps of the test title screens were actually being included in the benchmarks when they shouldn't have been.

Oh, and another thing, there was a bug with the nvidia drivers that was causing a lower nature scene score, before you run the benchmark change your desktop to 16bit colour (high colour) instead of 32bit colour (true colour). This may increase your score alittle. After you've finished running the benchmark remember to change back to 32bit colour on your desktop tho!

Thanks y'all !
I've run the benchmark (SE) with the latest mobo and det dreivers and finally got a score of 6669 in XP - that's at 32 bit and no overclocking and I'll settle for that.
I figured those guys wereoverclocking but I want to keep everything "as is" to give me an idea where it is in case I do get a wild hair to o/c someday.
JayMan - I'm dumping my ME partition and going with 98SE. After two years of running it without any problems, I have had a horrible week of troubleshooting memory problems after a mobo and memory upgrade. Hopefully 98 will like my setup better than ME.

Is there any reason in particular u need win98se? I used to run dual boot winXP & 98se, hehe actually once i had XP installed i never booted back into 98se hehe.
But yeh, win98se with all the updates should be rock solid.

JayMan -
I use 98 / ME because I have a lot of customers that have that as thier o/s and I need to boot to it at times to walk them through a problem over the phone.
Your right though, I rarely boot to it other than that. XP has been my main o/s since November. I just wish I had the time to boot to Mandrake and play around with it.
