Weird situation with a Win7/IE9 machine

My friends machine does the following:

Upon opening IE, a page comes up that says in the addy bar "about:blank".
I try to clear the about blank and type something in, nothing will type and a second page pops over the first one that says the same thing. Sometimes it will say "Type something in the search box" or something to that effect.

It seems to me like the keyboard is hokey. I try to bring up the task manager with C/Alt/DEL and I get another page like above.

All the short cuts on the desktop work fine, and I can click thru them with no problem, but when I try to type anything into the address bar, I get the same "about:blank" page again.

I ran MalwareBytes, did a virus scan, cleaned cookies and temp files.

I m trying a different keyboard tomorrow, but if anyone has any suggestions before I head over there, t'would be appreciated!

    Thanks,eh?

    Brad

Spybot S&D has a section which you can use to change IE default pages. I think that may include the "about:blank" page.
Maybe resetting IE to default settings will help? Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced.

sorry for not mentioning that I already reset IE to default. Thanks anyway!!

I will check out Spybot. I used to use that without fail on all my 98/XP machines.
