Costco
Costco has an HP amd computer with 12 gigs A10 5700 on sale with a 27" screen.
HP p7 Quad Desktop Intel® Core™ i5-2320 3.0GHz with...
$599.99 with no screen. Everyone says it's better to buy intel. I do not have the expertise to make my own computer. Any and all thoughts are appreciated

Well it really depends, what are you doing with this system and what's the budget?
Also what is the price on that HP with the amd cpu?
I'm assuming you don't have a monitor at all at this point?Main PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit

I have a 22" monitor. Still works fine. My HP quad core 6600, one hard drive went, I took it out (there's one left) and got the computer to work again. It freezes a lot, then won't recognize the mouse, and I have to hard boot which I know is not good for it. It seems all the intels run $100 more than the amds. Maybe I should just wait until this one goes.

maybe just back up any important data on the existing PC, and then reinstall the operating system, update all the drivers for the PC and see if that fixes things.
as to the "expertise" to make your own computer, you just don't have the experience, or your actually physically in capable of doing it?
as there is a big difference.
Its pretty dang easy to build a PC these days, unlike years and years ago for some of us, and even then it wasn't THAT Hard, but I feel sorry for the old farts around here who came into it in the PC's infancy.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Hey, hey, hey, there sonny . . . if it wasn't for us Ol' guys learning and forcing it to become easier for ya' . . . I'm not complaining about how hard it used to be, I'm just thankful about how easy it is today. (BTW Shy, I'm still Beta testing for a couple companies and tinkering in my retirement.
)
He is right though, building your own computer today, is easier than making a Betty Crocker cake.

Hi and welcome to TechIMO! I have taken the liberty of moving your thread from our community which is mainly for non-tech discussions to a more appropriate hardware related forum where it will get more attention.
Thanks!Tyranny doesn't have to come at the end of a gun.

For what it's worth, I have a monitor the size of a drive in movie screen and I don't really care for it, it's just too big.

How big is too big? I'm planning on shopping soon and don't want to over do it.
And to the OP... Costco tests everything for useability, and their return policy is quite straight forward and easy.
I trust Costco. I do think you could save a few bucks by going with an AMD processor, but unless Costco sells it, go with what they have. BTW, don't buy the extended warranty.Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

AMD vs Intel
the Amd is $849 on sale, has 12 gigs memory, or I can custom buy for $636 a unit with a video card, the intel i5 2320 with 6 gigs. The $849 also has a video card and the 27 inch screen. I mostly watch programs and movies, email, etc, my son played Guild Wars 2 fine on the computer that I have now. I decided to wait, then it froze again this morning.
they have a
HP Pavilion HPE h8xt Desktop
Intel® Core™ i7-3770 3.4GHz
Microsoft® Office Home & Student
23" LED Ultra-Slim Monitor
SuperMulti DVD Burner
2GB DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 7570 Graphics
for $999 on sale, which I can't afford. The $849 is over budget, but my son would help out (which means he'll be using it more than half the time. Most of the other intels have no graphic card.

I trust Costco too. It's the only place I buy big purchases, and dog food

I agree. And while I can't really comment as to that particular system, I know that their laptops (which I've recently been in the market for) are terrific. I bought one for my mother and I may get one for myself. As with anything, checking the specs, etc. is necessary, but the HPs they currently have there are really good computers.
As for PCs I'm into upgrading them myself so I've been wanting to build one rather than go with a big brand name. But don't get me wrong: I have nothing against Costco, that's just my preference (and I'm a bit tech savvy if that matters).
But, as far as I'm concerned, their laptops are really great. I realize that isn't really what the thread is about, but just wanted to share my pro-Costco and plus-Costco-sold-technology message.

as was said in your other thread, the AMD System does not have a Video card, its video graphics chip is built into the CPU.
But looking at Costco, assuming they have one in store, or if your fine with ordering off their site, for the price range.
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11769279&whse=BC&Ne=5000000+40 00000&eCat=BC|84&N=4047237%205000112&Mo=5&No=2&Nr= P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=
That would be a good system, the graphics card is a lower budget range gaming card, should be suitable for the games you listed in the other thread, but the CPU is a great performing Quad core and would last you quite a few years.
Even something like this: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11771854&whse=BC&Ne=5000000+40 00000&eCat=BC|84&N=4047237%205000110&Mo=6&No=2&Nr= P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&topnav=
Then spend $50 on a decent Upgraded Power Supply to swap out of the PC, and another $50-100 on a decent dedicated Graphics card.

Newegg.com - XFX Double D FX-775A-ZDP4 Radeon HD 7750 Black Edition 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
or something like a Radeon HD 6670 (which are between $65 and $90 depending on whether its a GDDR3 or GDDR5 model).
could maybe even fit in a 23" LCD Display as well, and not be too far over $850 range

I love that one, but it's $800 plus tax and shipping, I didn't see it in the store here.

maybe I missed the part earlier where you listed the $850 one was out of your budget, but the other person was going to help with towards the price of the PC?
From what I understand, $800 would be $50 less than the AMD one listed earlier.... or maybe I'm missing something?i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

assuming the $850 wasn't taxed and cost shipping as well, which would be even MORE than the $800 one....

The $850 one had the 27" monitor, is on sale, and was in the store here. We could buy it and bring it back in 2 months, but I don't like doing that. A friend of my son gave him his own computer (so slow with a 15 inch screen). Maybe I should just wait until this one totally goes. This one is four years old, they put a new C hardrive and mother board when it was 10 months old. I had bought the ZT on sale ($599) came to 650. I never took it out of the box and returned it. I"ve always had trouble with it recognizing new hardware (Vista problem?) Guild War 2 runs on this computer (but not his) it's got an NVidea 516 mg card. It has a Q6600@4Ghz processor. I've already bought an external hard drive from Walmart, and my movies, pics, downloads, and documents are already backed up. I think this computer is fine, then it does a freeze and I'm looking for another computer. I saw the Dell monitor, seemed like a good deal.

Q6600 at 4GHz, not unless its Overclocked, those ran at 2.4GHz Stock.
what Nvidia Graphics card does it have? Simply stating 516MB Card (and its not 516, maybe 512), doesn't tell anyone anything about the actual card and its performance level.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Yes, it runs at 2.4 GHz. the card is NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT, you're right, it's probably 512
My son's computer is an AMD Dual Core 2.1, with NV 7500 LE, I did a system restore, and dowloaded a trial Malware bytes, which seemed to help the speed, but it's still really slow (he got it free) It has 2 gig memory with Windows XP
Yes, I can see why I should stick with IntelLast edited by lupesmom2; September 12th, 2012 at 05:33 PM. Reason: Forgot something
