I seem to be really hard on universal remotes for TV and other A/V devices.

I reciently purchased a RCA RCRP05BR universal since the majority of my devices are RCA. The instruction sheet that came with the remote is below skimpy at best and online is not much better. I've read reviews from others that have the same complaints.

Basically, I cannot get it to provide all of the functions. I cannot get it to change channels on my TV or VCR. Channel up/dwn and direct entry do not work. I've tried all of the codes in the skimpy manual.
Since this is a JP1.3 class remote I should be able to use a flash cable to program it from my PC. I've never done this before and I'm wondering if anyone at TechIMO has instructions to help me before I make matters worse.
