Rate my PC please!
My rig:
Processor:Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Motherboard:ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5KPL-AM (Socket 775)
RAM:4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 333MHz (5-5-5-15)
GPU:Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 DirectCU II OC 1GB,GDDR5
Hard Drives:153GB Western Digital WDC WD1600YS-01SHB1 ATA Device (SATA)
Operating System:Windows 7 (64-bit SP1,Ultimate edition).
I'm considering to buy an AMD FX 6100,an ASUS motherboard (socket AM3+) and 8GB RAM (Corsair).
What do you guys think? any suggestions?

whats the current rig not doing for you that you want to upgrade to something else that isn't going to be any faster?
The first crop of FX series chips were a joke, no faster than the Phenom II's they replaced, which was only marginally faster than the generation of Intel hardware you currently have.
What are you doing on this PC, guessing Gaming, but anything else?
What Resolution is your monitor or do you use?

ShyguyXPC,thanks for responding.
Well,it will be mostly for gaming,as you guessed.
The resolution is 1680X1050.
Thing is I kinda oredered the proc and the RAM's (which were together about 160 Euros).I think I'm gonna try them out first, but I can send them back if I don't like 'em.
So,I'll say my buget is somewhere near 230 Euros.Any advice on what I could buy by means of proc, ram and motherboard (for a segnificant upgrade)?

Intel Core i3 at 3GHz or more will match the AMD Quad, and even give the 6 core a run for its money.
from what I read yesterday, doing some research for another thread, even the newer FX 6300 6 core barely matches some of Intels higher end 3.4GHz Dual cores.
For $300 USD, rougly 230 Euro (give or take a few).
not sure how much they charge over there for CPU's, I know some countries slap on a ton of taxes, but if over in the US, you could possibly get a Core i5 Quad core, 2.9GHz or so, with a more basic Intel H77 Chipset Motherboard, and 8GB DDR3 1600MHZ for roughly that $300 or so.
Over in the US here using Newegg as an example, a bit over the $300 Mark, but not by much.
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-3330 Ivy Bridge 3.0GHz (3.2GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2500 BX80637i53330
Newegg.com - ASRock Z75 Pro3 LGA 1155 Intel Z75 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Newegg.com - Patriot Viper 3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model PV38G160C9KRD
Good jump up in Quad core performance and performance on a core vs core basis.
motherboard allows for some level of Overclocking if you need more, and RAM is rated for 1600Mhz for OCing headroom.
This Quad is a Ivy Bridge Quad core, you might be able to find one of the "older" Sandy Bridge i5 Quad cores for less, they will still be fine, and not too much loss in performance, only lose PCIe 3.0 support, but thats not needed by any cards currently on the market.
That might help drop costs down a bit.
I tried to find an SLI capable board to fit the budget, but cheapest I could fine was another $40 more than this one. Figured you already have a 560, with a PSU upgrade (assuming that is needed) you could probably find a 2nd and SLI them together.
Otherwise with that Motherboard, for Dual Card performance, you'd need to switch to Radeon HD Cards, an HD 7850 would be comparable or a bit better than your existing 560.
But at least with that Motherboard (or another Z75 or Z77 Chipset board like it), and a newer Socket 1155 Core i5 Quad core, and DDR3 kit, you'd have a more upgradable and modern gaming platform to do additional upgrades down the road, like GPU, HDD/SSD, etc.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

November 2nd, 2012, 12:13 PM #6Curious I'm assuming you meant you bough the motherboard cpu and ram otherwise how do you plan to try them without having a motherboard that would support them?Thing is I kinda oredered the proc and the RAM's (which were together about 160 Euros).I think I'm gonna try them out first, but I can send them back if I don't like 'em.
Sorry to sound rude but if you already bought them then why even ask
If it were me I'd send it all back and go with what Shy mentioned. You'll be getting a better rig overall

I was kinda in a hurry with that one.So I did order the CPU and RAM,but I'll need to get the motherboard.Thing is,I really want to try this system out, maybe it won't suck as many people think + I know Shy's recomandation is great, thing is my buget isn't quite there :s
If I could get the money,I would definitly go for better.

Well thats the thing - your current cpu isn't all that much worse than the processor you ordered. Why spend money for the sake of it for slightly better performance? You are far better off with what has been suggested. Save up a bit more if you have to.
Why blow what money you saved and not be satisfied with the bump in performance when you can wait, save slightly more and get a MUCH better gaming system?
If you were on an older dual core or something slightly older I'd say otherwise but you aren't getting much of an upgrade here. Your current setup can play any game out there at that resolution fine so why upgrade until it's worth itMain PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit

I think you'll do ok CB. According to Passmark the new cpu is almost twice as fast as your old cpu so that may be a worthwhile improvement.

I was upgrading my system too and I almost went for AMD because I've been AMD on all my builds but Shyguy and others showed me that Intel's the way to go now. I went for the dual core Celeron (Sandy Bridge).
I'm upgrading from my AMD 64 X2 3800+ so I think it's gonna be a hell of an improvement.

Passmark isn't a great judge for performance, its mostly synthetic benchmarks.
AnandTech - The Vishera Review: AMD FX-8350, FX-8320, FX-6300 and FX-4300 Tested
FX 6300 is the new 6 Core, and in some of those tests, it just barely beats Intel's i3 Dual core, since there are some i5 Dual cores at 3.4GHz I would imagine those would match or best the FX 6300.
Keep in mind, the FX 6300 is the NEW FX 6 core, and the older FX 6100 is less in performance by a bit as well.
If anyone here knows the limitations to the FX series, Solo does, he recently moved from one of the 1st FX 8 cores, to one of the newer ones, and with out changing any other hardware, saw a noticeable boost in performance in games with his hardware, not to mention a nice boost in 3Dmark scores.
But if they were going AMD, the least I would consider, coming up from a Q6600 is one of AMD's newer FX 8 cores.
which would bring them up to Intel Quad core Core i5 range performance for games.
Though, a GTX 560 wouldn't see much of any performance jump up to one of those CPU's, if there was a noticeable performance increase, it was because what ever was choking the prior system was something related to CPU processing specifically in games, like AI, Physics, and such.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Funny, I figure that is about the same time i will get a new laptop at work, and I will be lucky if it has Win7 on it.
