Canon Printer BJC-4000 trouble

Trying to fix an old printer for a friend , model above. Put new ink cartridges in , it gives the error cartidges not installed. Same error as before I guess. I came into this after the fact. I looked , wiped, visited Canon's website , read their trouble shooting guide , did what they said, same results. It's a charity repair and if I have to I will throw it in the dumpster but if it can be fixed cheaply I will do it, and eat the parts cost. Symptoms are power light on, on line light flashing, HQ light lit .Pull out the ink, reinstall them,Press the online button, I get 3 beeps. I installed them per Canons directions.

did you verify that they are indeed the right cartriges?

I had a similar problem a few years back with my 4100. Turns out there was lots of built up ink on and behind the print head circuits. It must have taken me 20 alcohol wipes to get it all off.

They are the right ones. Tried the alcohol thing. It is in the dumpster now!!

I seem to remember something about the waste ink tanks getting full on some of the canons. Is it literally in the dumpster, or should I try to dig up that info?

dried up ink inside the tubes that take ink from the
caqrtridge to the jet. solution? i heard about cleaning these tubes .....ummmmm, not sure how .....
