Looks good, why not just fork out for the sound card now. Looks like he's got the $$$ to spare...or is he Canadian as well?
Seriously though, that's one nice paperweight your throwing together there. Why not an AMD? |

Why, yes he is Canadian but working for US company
He will be getting the sound card as a present from family, at least that is what he is telling them to get him.
For customers, I usually deal Intel for stability (don't have to worry as much about fried eggs) and besides he likes them too. |

How bout a Lite-on cdrw to go with that dvd drive?
One other thing id consider checking out closer is possibly using ddr mem rather then rambus----rambus is being fazed out already and ddr now offers about the same performance level at a lower cost... |

I like LiteOn too, actually just bought one. He is going for performance and show as well. The Disc T@2 is awesome, no more printing labels or markers, burn the label on!!
Here it is $225 CDN, or about $145 US for retail version. |

What do I have to do to be your buddy?
Very nice, e. Looks like you're a step back of the latest and greatest, which is where you want to be from a price/performance perspective. The only thing that I would change
is to go for 2 x Western digital 80GB HDDs w/ the 8 MB cache. I'm
getting ready to install one now. However, I've had very good success w/Seagate drives.
I think a lot of folks around here will recommend the Santa Cruz
sound card, whenever you're ready for that. And, as long as you're going with a high-end system, opt for the Klipsch Pro-media 4.1 or 5.1 speakers, or the Logitech Z-560 series speakers.
Good luck with that build. Without a doubt, your friend will love it.
The guy obviously has the bucks for all the bells and whistles,
so why not go for it. . .

I would get a TFT monitor instead of that 19" CRT
a "cheap" but still good 18" costs around $6-700
This doesn't look like a budget system to me so why not get the best you can get for yer money.
Otherwise lookin good
oh yeah and change the harddrives to 8meg WD drives
they be nice and fast |

I will check into the WD drives for sure, thanks for the suggestions.
a 17" TFT would cost over $900 CDN over here so that pushes the cost way to high. He may have the money for the system but he does have a budget, so far we are over a little but his wife is still ok with it.
For speakers, Klipsch Pro-media 5.1 speakers are the ones he is thinking of. Though he has a new born and he will be banned to headphones for a while. |
