Need advice: Choosing a Power Supply

    Hello,
I've been trying to decide on a new case and power supply for a while now, but need a little help. I think I have the case down, well atleast I'm pretty sure I'm going with a skyhawk just have to figure out which model in particular.
The ps is where I'm hanging hard. I currently use an inexpensive maxtop case from newegg and the ps included (qmax originally but it was dead and rma'd, I think they sent back a sparkle 350w).
I'm just trying to research a little more and make sure I'm getting a good case and more specifically a good quality power supply, and amd recommended/approved.
Haven't had much experience with brands.

Right now I have been looking at Allied and Enermax. I'm sure there are plenty with experience with enermax, anyone used allied before?

I had been looking at getting a second case/ps, but a combo that's less expensive for another system. Looked a little at codegen, but hadn't read much about their power supplies.
Any recommendations for this cheaper system, again amd?

For both I'd like 350w atleast, was trying to push it higher with the more expensive system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm seriously lacking in knowledge and experience with different power supplies. I've read tons of posts and I just keep bouncing back and forth in my head.

You definatly can't go wrong with an Enermax PSU... I've got a 350watt enermax and its great. What are your system specs going to look like? We'll be able to give better suggestions if we know what type of power your system will need.

    Sure, here are some specs:
not sure of mobo yet either Soltek or MSI and either kt333 or kt400 chipset of those brands.
    AMD XP 1600+
    256MB DDR
    MSI geforce 3 ti-500
    santa cruz sound card
lite-on 24/10/40 (sure about write, pretty sure rest is correct)
    w2k

It seems like I'm missing something here, but can't remember what that would be. Let me know if more specs are needed.

I would go with Enermax maybe Antec for the second system. PC power and cooling is also very good but a little pricey

SevenTeam is another very good quality power supply... Even the ST-300GL 300W will output enough juice. I used to run my duallie with gangloads of drives and fans wihout any problems...

Here is another link for some reading... 384W of power at any one time is definetly impressive for this 400W PSU...

I bought mine is asia while I was on a trip there for over $120 USD due to the currency rate there. However, you can buy them in the states much cheaper...

Take a look at Newegg for the Antec SL400. I just got it and it's a little less expensive than the Enermax I was looking at, but still has the "muscle"... (IMO)

Hey, thanks for all of your info everybody. hmmm...I think I probably will not go with an allied ps afterall, so that's taken out of the race. After looking at the stats, they just seemed to wimpy compared to the enermax/antec and the seventeam.
Wow, you both gave me such good recommendations with these two, I'll have to think a while. I'll have to see what sorts of prices I can dig up. Thanks again for all the feedback and linkage.

Yeah, I remember a tech from Epox saying that Seventeam was their company's official recommendation. The only place I've found who sells them is www.kricomputer.com and they used to have a larger selection.

Thier 300W is approved for a 1.4G Tbird! - not too shabby! I got one for ~$35.

I'd recommend one of the Antec TruPower PSUs over at newegg.

This one is just a little smaller than the one you wanted but it's on sale.

Enermax EG351P-V ATX 330W Power Supply, Dual fan design, P4-Ready, OEM $34.99

Yep, I didn't see a big variety at kri when I looked, figured I'd check other places to check prices but haven't found too much anywhere else.
That's a pretty good deal at directron xeroid.
I'm still thinking about this, I want to decide and get something ordered today hopefully. I really appreciate the help.
