weird win2000 problem with shortcut keys

ok, i have a weird problem going on with a win2000 machine pertaining to shortcut keys bound to my desktop icons.

i've recently just built a w2k replacement box for my aging NT internet machine and now my shortcut keys don't work anymore.

for example: i've bound ctrl-alt-o to launch outlook express. but even though the shortcut shows up under Properties, when i press those keys, it refuses to launch. if i delete the shortcut key and recreate it again, it will only work during the current boot session. the next time i reboot the machine, i lose it again.

has anyone ever seen this or knows what the problem could be?

ps. i'm not complete sure when this stopped working because i've only used the machine for 3-4 days. i had installed sp3 (with the backup option) recently but i deleted the uninstall folder 24hrs later afterwards, so now i can't roll it back. grrrr!

I'm a relative newbiew to Win2KPro ... I wasn't even aware of shortcut keys! I suspect you've surmised the shortcut you create each session simply is not being "saved." Like something being set up in RAM. Either that or the shortcut compiler or whatever creates and/or controls that code is resetting to default when you end your session.

In short, I've no specific fix to your problem, nor have I experienced it (see above). Just a few "how come?" ideas.

Good luck. I'll look in my manual and check out "saving" shortcut keys once configured.
