This computer has it in C:\
Do you have your system files hidden in Windows Explorer? |

You can also bring it up by going to run and typing "sysedit" |

It'll also come up if you run msconfig (Win98 and later). |

in Win2k/XP they don't use autoexec.bat
They do however have alternative with autoexec.nt in C:\winnt\system32 I do believe.

If your computer has one it will be in the root of C:\. It's possible that you don't have one.
Try running sysedit.exe |

sysedit brings up autoexec.bat but it,s empty.
c:\winnt\system32 shows autoexe.nt. the system32 folder says the files it contains are necessary to keep my system running and they need not be changed. should i change autoexec.nt so that i can compile and run java?
thanks |

don't modify the existing data, but you should be able to add a line w/o too much problem. |

In XP, you need to set System Properties to give the relevant CLASSPATH variable as referencing the Java path.
1. Log in (or secondary login) as an administrator.
2. Control Panel
3. System
4. Advanced
5. Environment Variables
6. in System Variables, hit New to add an environment variable, or Edit to edit an existing one (e.g. to add the Java path to the Path environment variable). |
