Bill Gates/HP and Tv's/Pc's
Article Here
Funny Bill Gates gets his XP copy on this gadget the Media Center PC's.
Next thing we know the movie and show biz industry is gonna sue for loss of income for the ability to record tv programs and movies and then do some filesharing of the movies/shows.
I can now just see it. Unless of course it has to have the pallidon (sp?) chip installed.

Expect palladium (or some derivative) if Microsoft is to be involved in Digital Rights Management. Unless someone has a few thousand hours and many thousands of dollars of logic analyzation equipment, do not expect it to be cracked anytime in the near future. For comparison, hacking the XBox was a walk in the park as compared to disabling or circumventing Palladium.

ya i figured as much. So it probably won't have that much recording capibilties even though it says you can record your movies to watch later or something er other, including MTV.

It will probally be more of a TIVO style gadget. Plus I would hope that nobody would want to crack palladium as M$ are just being gimps and anyone who knows this will be moving to another platform as we speak.

Aside from MS and Palladium (Obvious reasons right now why to stay away), I cant see myself using something like this over my already existant Home Entertainment System- not with this...
Until Digital Wide Screens come down in price, I dont see the above as entertainment, I see it as everyone cramping together on the couch two feet away from the Monitor. There are appealing aspects to this idea- such as the features listed, just not as it stands... I think it will have the same fate to the average consumer as the last attempt by Toshiba.plus $500 for a 15-in. flat-panel monitor or $750 for a 17-incher.
They addressed what my dislikes are with is...
Not for a base price tag of $1649... then another $5-750 for monitor. No thanks. The Media Center isn't meant to replace your big-screen TV. Think of it as a smaller, second TV screen for the study or a component to hook up to your primary TV to play home movies, DVDs or slide shows. It's also perfect for students in dorm rooms who don't have space for both a TV and a PC.
EDIT: Minus the DVD Burner (for me), Many of us Geeks/WannaBeGeeks have much of this already both hardware and capability wise. I dont see the advantage. Besides, PC Wise- I prefer to use my 19" to watch movies from my HDD, DVD or to listen to Music or any of the other things listed in the article... steep price for what already can be achieved with a little know how- and know how is free.Last edited by Mortis; November 13th, 2002 at 01:25 PM.

I would be surprised if it really took off, but you never know. M$ just needs a kick up the jacksee and to stop trying to ruin perfectly good customers. If they didn't overcharge for what was availible quite cheaply everywhere else, they wouldn't have such a problem.

I have a media center PC - the DVD RW
I've really enjoyed it. Flipping through the channels with my remote, and stuff. It's cool, and very geeky which is sweet!

Ouch, idle temp is way too high. Should be idle around 30-45c Top temps at load should be 80-85, anything more than 90 and its running hotter than it should. Make sure the case fans are...
Radeon 7870 or GTX 660 - which is...
