Get the cheaper model - if you PC can burn at 48x40 I would be impressed, let alone 48x48!

I would to aswell except my PC can burn at 48x48 but the shop I am going to purchase from only has a few dollar (literally) difference between the two. Also the cheaper model is harder to get these days as well.

    Buy the cheapest.

You could always burn new firmware on the 48x40 to get it up 48x48... Of course, thsi will void your warranty-- but burners are so cheap now.

The only thing that I have noticed with Lite On is that sometimes they dont read properly in other readers opposed to say a Yamaha or a Plextor. But as far as for your own use on your own PC, rock on!! Lite on is awesome. Although, say you have a Lite On drive and burn a crap load of backups, then your drive dies. Now if your next drive cant read the lite on discs, BIG PROBLEM. Possibly there is a way to rectify this problem in Nero or Clone CD aside from the default settings but I personally havent dabbled enough with a Lite On drive under those circumstances.

Get the cheepest. The performance difference is too minimal to matter.

I got the 48x48x12 Lite On CDRW for the same price as the 48x40x12 I had some problems with connecting the burner I tried all the possiblities I kept changing the cables I ended up going back to the store and the checked the burner it was faulty. They replaced the burner and I left it as a slave to my DVD player.

Well, I bought a 40x12x48x Lite On yesterday.
Haven't had a chance to use it yet!
Good to see folk, saying nice things about them though!
    ChrsR.

Included s/ware looks good. Allows more than 'oneshot' at recording on a normal CD-R.

There great however you have to set it up properly or the burner may not be detected I like to keep mine as the slave however it doesn't matter much make sure it works as if you keep it in the box to long you may not get a refund if you keep it in there and one day you realise it doesn't work. Ohh yeah enjoy!!!!!!!!
