| Motherboard/Processor upgrade???
This looks like the place that will have the answer. OK I have an AMD 1.2Ghz Socket 462 processor and motherboard. FSB is 266. The motherboard book states that it will support up to a 1.3Ghz The ? Amd has a 2.0Ghz(if I am correct) socket 462, with 266 FSB. Can I put that on the motherboard, will it work??? Don't ask what the motherboard is, I have been trying to figure it out for a week, useing all the tricks, trying to see if there is an updated bios, but I still don't know what it is. What can I say its generic. Thank you for any help

Without knowing your MoBo maker and model .. no one can answer your question.
Open your case and check on the board, the name is mostly printed there, you have to know the board so you can check for a BIOS update.
Did you try SiSoft Sandra ? .. it might detect your MoBo, so give it a try (if you didn`t already do).

oh yea, I love that software. Sandra is HOT! ok well, it is a PcChips M817LMR I went to PcChips site, downloaded the new flash but haven't installed it yet, because it didn't say anything about being an upgrade, or any new features, it is probably just the normall bios. So? does that get me any closer to 2.0Ghz Thank you for your help. Thank you for the welcome, I like this site.

Well, PcChips' site is about as useful as, well, stuff that isn't.
Can't tell if the newer bios will support the newer chip or not. You could maybe e-mail their support staff and ask them. It's really quite silly of them not to list things like that on their site (unless I'm really lost and just not seeing it). The board's features on their site list only to 1.2Ghz, so my first guess would be no, it won't support the faster chip. I'm probably wrong though. Surreal is a big fan of PcChips boards I think, maybe she'll have a better idea. |

First, Welcome to TIMO Ryan!
This is not a great answer.
But having done a similar thing recently.
If the AMD chip is 266Mhz FSB.
And the mobo supports 133Mhz. [Note: 133Mhz Bus]
Check the multipliers in your book.
Then you have a match. www.motherboards.org have some good utils for ID'ing mobos
Good luck with it! ChrsR. |
