    Just what is "Source Code"?

This word gets pushed around a lot. But it seems to have different meanings...

    Thanks in Advance...

Source Code is the code behind a program. It is the code that is either compiled into a binary (vb, c, c++, etc.) or used by an interperter to run (perl, php, etc...)

Open source means that anyone can have access to this source code. See exactly how the program works in the language it was written in.

So actually, when Quake 3 (?) released code for mods, the mean that they released the actual program code that pertained to that section of the program?

    Thanks for the info...

Yep they released the actual code that would be needed to develop mods. I'm pretty sure Quake (one I think) has its COMPLETE source code online.

Don't quote me on that though

*Note: I'm not sure these are the actual source... I couldn't seem to find a link on idsoftware.com for the entire source...

Both Quake 1 and Quake 2 have had their full source code released under the GPL.
