CD Creator-'Finishing' CD???

Help! Here's the problem,
Formatted and transferred files to a CD-R on a CD-RW drive-No Problem
What are the necessary steps to make this CD readable on older CD drives.
I remember something about 'finishing' the CD but I can't find it in Easy Creator 5.
Thanks and Happy New Year

Im not 100% sure I know what you are talking about, but are you trying to "finalize" the CD? All you need to do is go somewhere in the toobar and there should be a option to "finalize CD" If This doesn't help anything, sorry

When you have your data ready and you click the record button a sreen will pop up. At the bottom of that screen there is an option of finalizine the session or finalizing the CD. Choose Finalizing the cd to make it playable on another computer

Depends on the version of EZ CD creator you are using.
anything in version 4 you need to finalize the settings period.

Anything in version 5 you can leave the CD open, so you can still add to it later, and you can read from it on this machine, but to read it from another machine you have to Finalize it.

Also if it is version 4, the other machine will have to have a UDF (Universal Disc Format) reader installed so it can read the CD's. you can install that on another machine using the original EZ CD creator 4 CD.

**edit**

Oops didn't see you are using EZ CD 5. that should be all you need to do, because EZ CD 5 has the UDF built in already that almost all CD drives recognize.

I think you only need the UDF reader if you are using Directcd. Any of the finalized cd's should read any any cd drive that supports CDR or CDRW

Nope Rlpos, not the case. I discovered this when I tried to read a CD burned from one of my machines in another. I had to actually install the SW on my other machine to get it to read the CD.

Dont know how you are finalizing the cd but, if you finalize session you can't read it, if you finalize cd it will read in any drive that supports CD-R or CD-RW. At least thats how it works with mine and I have run versions 4 and 5 and am currently running version 5.3 Has anyone else got any input on this subject?

Take what you can from this...

What is the Universal Disk Format (UDF) Reader?

Adaptec's Universal Disk Format (UDF) Reader enables MultiRead CD-ROM drives to read UDF formatted CD-Rs and CD-RWs, such as discs written with DirectCD, under Windows 9x or NT 4.0.

UDF is a new file system with support for the current generation of CDs, such as CD-RW, DVD-ROM, and DVD-Video.

Standard CDs are usually formatted using a file system called ISO 9660. Windows® operating systems can read ISO 9660 CDs and CD-Rs because they have built-in ISO 9660 readers. However, ISO 9660 has certain limitations that make it inappropriate for DVD, CD-RW, and other new disc formats. UDF is designed to address these limitations. Specifically, UDF allows files to be added to a CD-R or CD-RW incrementally, one file at a time, without significant wasted overhead, using a technique called packet writing. Also, UDF allows for the random erasure of individual files on a CD-RW, freeing up space in the process. ISO 9660 cannot handle this.

The UDF Reader is designed to support the new generation of MultiRead CD-ROM drives. To be MultiRead compliant, a CD-ROM drive must:

Read CD-RWs
Read packet-written discs (both CD-R and CD-RW)
UDF Readers are especially useful when using DirectCD to record data to a CD-RW. They are able to read the CD-RW in a MultiRead CD-ROM drive. Without the UDF Reader, these discs can be read only in a CD-RW drive using DirectCD.
