Im not sure if this belongs in general tech or community, so move it if you need to. Anyway, everyday, whenever i come onto techIMO, someone else is asking about building a system. Im so happy to see it, because its a lot better than just buying one. You learn about how the thing works, plus you can upgrade really well. KEEP IT UP BUILDING NOT BUYING!!! |

i think there oughta be another option like 'it depends'.
some people aren't very good candidates for home-built pc's (like if they're far away from tech help). and quite often, preconfigured models are cheaper than building it yourself also. |

I agree that some people should not dabble in building their own systems. But I do think that no one should go out and buy a pre-configured system that has been mass produced.
I work for a store that custom builds systems for customers, as well as offering local service and support that most of the mass-production market lacks

Not to mention the fact that most people aren't smart enough to turn on a computer without tech assistance. For those people a preconfiguired computer is right up their ally unless, or course they want me to build one for them for a little profit. .

Agreed there PJ, Dell has been having some deals that I can't beat.
When you consider the time that goes into the whole process, mobo, vid and sound reveiws, assembly and so forth, it's hard to beat some of the "premade" configurations.
If it wasn't for the fact that I love it as a hobby I probably why have a dell or some other computer.

I agree with CP. Many of the brandname PCs, notably Dell, are very well built and can be upgraded to some extent.
But nothing beats making it from scratch. | |

i also agree with cp. but on the other hand, like my mom just bought a VAIO. and there is so much horse$*!t on there that she will never use, they should have a configurator in the store, and you can choose what software you actually want to pay for.
