| Pentium II to Pentium III upgrade?
Hi ,I have a late P II 350MHz (SECC-2) on a Siemens D1064 Motherboard (Intel 440BX chipset @ 100MHz) and would like to know if a Pentium III (SECC-2) would go straight in, or am I going to have to alter voltage settings (not sure if this is possible on this board). I have read that a socket converter can be used to convert to Socket 370, which apparently sorts out the voltage difference! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

1st of all, welcome to TechIMO!
i'm not entirely sure, but im pretty sure if its a slot1 P3 then it should work right off the bat, no adjustments needed. If it is inded a socket P3, then you will need the adapter, and even then only up to the coppermine core P3's will work, i'm pretty sure they changed design of the tualitin cored P3's so they didn't work with the slocket adapters. Also make sure the FSB of the P3 is 100Mhz otherwise you might have troubles (i think early P3's had 100 but the later ones have 133).
Again, i'm not 100% about all that, but its a start for ya

I think this board only allows up to 100MHz FSB. Here's a manual for it with jumper info.
Should be able to use a Socket370 converter card to add any Socket 370 CPU that has 100MHz FSB, I think.
Cheers

Cheers Mick, your right this board only goes to 100MHz FSB. Thanks for the link to the manual, tho' I'd already managed to find one via download, you can't have too much of the right kind of information!! |

If your motherboard supports 1.65v, it can support coppermines and you can just pop one in. If it doesn't, you'll have to find a Katmai Pentium 3 (450-600 non-E non-EB non-B) to put in, which are really expensive nowdays. |
