Fried PSU In MY Comp, hopefully...

nothing more. While watching the SuperBowl, I was adding some interior lights to my Main Computer (my pride and joy of comps). I was using LiteGlow Sticks (Car ColdCathode Lights) and after modding them, I attached to the PSU. While I was in there and watching the game, I decided to give it a thorough cleaning. I didnt remove anything or reseat anything. Game is over and I lug the case back into the CompRoom and plug everything in. I fire it up and fans started then nothing- silence. I think I probably (somehow) fried my PSU. Hopefully, since I didnt hear any popping or see any "sparks," that is all I lost. I am not sure how or why this happened... I try to be aware of static and all the normal precautions. Also, this isnt the first time I installed these types of lights in a computer and I did it the same way I have before (and how I read to). Grrrr....

Just had to Vent!

I am sure you thought of this, but since you cleaned it did you go back and re-seat everything? I have had the same problem in the past and that was my problem.

yea, you coulda bumped them (even slightly may cause problems)

Also, be sure nothing is trying to draw too much power. detach some devices, and see if it starts up. If the lights are drawing from the PSU, then.. you may not have enough wattage for everything in there you don't mention what wattage it is..

Wow... another Attack of the ZeroPost feature .

All is good now, it was the PSU as suspected (I also tested the previous one with a VoltageIndicatior- and it was dead as a door nail). I ordered a new one and installed it and we are back to business. It was a 430w, so it was more than enough Juice. Nothing else was damaged. I probably did jostle or mix things up too much.

Thanks for the Replies.
