Anyone use a USB to Serial adapter?

Does it work? Heres a link to one

I'd think it wouldnt be too hard to do , but the driver for all 3 of my serial devices requires you to pick a com port through each of thier respective driver softwares, and it seems like the com port information would get lost through USB...or does it?

I've used a keyspan usb to serial convertor on my boss' pda cradle. The software include will emulate a com port, so any software requesting a com port will be able to choose a com port. Make sure you get the latest drivers.

We use a similar product here at my work, I know the drivers it comes with usually makes the USB port into something like COM11 and then you can use that like a normal COM port.

All the new HP laptops we are getting have these w/ them.

They actually work pretty well. We have a couple that use serial connections all the time for "special" needs. They used to call all the time saying they couldn't get them to work.

Thanks everyone. Might be picking up a few of these so I wont be tied to a board with Serial ports and so I can use more than 2 serial devices.
