If you want some version of Windows, I vote for 2,000. I've tried just about everything else (including XP Pro) on my own machine and still have come back to 2K. |

Linux is free...of course win2k is my choice for winblows machines...
try red hat 8.0...it's stable and recognizes newer components.
go different...try Linux

If you want to go Microsoft: Win 2000 Pro
If you want to go Linux: Mandrake or Red Hat |

Windows 98se will teach you about drivers, hardware conflicts, anomalies, and above all patience. You can always rip it out if you don't like it. A little dos won't hurt you either and it comes with 98. |

Using 98SE at home and 2k at work, both fine, 2k more stable, 98lite45 is getting some press (98SE with all of the rubbish stripped out) |

like PresterJohn said, this is like a weekly question. just search for "OS" and you'll get lots of opinions
if your purchasing I'd say go Windows XP Pro and use the downgrade to run windows 2000 pro.
